Payne Trucking Logistics is seeking an Entry-Level / B-Level Diesel Technician to join our growing maintenance and repair shop. This position is ideal for someone with basic to intermediate diesel/mechanical experience who wants steady hands-on work and the opportunity to continue developing their skills. The technician will work alongside our Lead Diesel Technician/Shop Manager performing maintenance and repairs on a mixed fleet of tractors, trailers, and box trucks . Responsibilities ● Perform preventive maintenance and DOT-related inspections ● Oil changes, filters, lubrication, and routine services ● Inspect and repair brakes and brake components ● Perform basic suspension and steering repairs ● Replace lights, wiring, batteries, and other basic electrical components ● Diagnose and repair air leaks ● Perform tire changes, rotations, and basic tire repairs ● Service wheel ends, hubs, bearings, and seals ● Perform basic trailer repairs ● Repair trailer lights, air lines, doors, landing gear, and related components ● Assist with tractor and diesel engine repairs ● Assist senior technician with diagnostics and more complex repairs ● Perform minor welding/fabrication if experienced ● Identify additional repairs needed during inspections ● Maintain accurate records of work performed and parts used ● Keep tools, work areas, and shop equipment clean and organized ● Follow all company and shop safety procedures Qualifications ● Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn ● Basic knowledge of diesel trucks, trailers, automotive, heavy equipment, or similar mechanical systems ● Previous shop experience preferred but not required for the right entry-level candidate ● Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, jacks, and shop equipment ● Ability to follow instructions and complete assigned work independently as skills progress ● Reliable attendance and strong work ethic ● Valid driver’s license ● Must be able to pass required drug screening ● CDL is a plus but not required ● Welding experience is a plus ● Diesel or automotive technical school training is a plus Experience Level We are open to candidates at different skill levels. Entry Level: Someone with mechanical ability, schooling, or limited hands-on experience who can handle basic maintenance while learning under an experienced technician. B-Level Technician: Someone who can independently perform PM services, brakes, suspension, wheel-end work, basic electrical diagnostics, air-system repairs, and common tractor/trailer repairs, while escalating major diagnostics and engine/transmission work to the Lead Technician. What We’re Looking For We want someone who is dependable, productive, mechanically inclined, and willing to learn . You do not need to be a master technician. We need someone who can handle routine maintenance and repairs correctly, help keep trucks moving, and grow into more advanced work over time. This position has the opportunity to grow as our in-house maintenance and repair operation expands.
