The Diesel Technician I – PM Tech performs scheduled preventive maintenance (PM), inspections, and basic repairs on company semi-tractors and trailers under regular direction from maintenance management. The technician follows the Company’s PM checklist, identifies developing defects, documents findings and completed work, and seeks assistance with diagnosis or repairs beyond the technician’s training. When scheduled tractor and trailer PM work permits, the technician assists with other fleet maintenance and shop needs. Duties Scheduled PM Service Complete scheduled PM work in accordance with the applicable checklist, service interval, manufacturer guidance, and shop procedures. Inspect tires and record pressure and tread depth; perform tire rotations, replacements, or basic tire repairs when trained and assigned. ·Perform oil and filter changes, lubrication, fluid checks and service, and replacement of belts, hoses, batteries, lights, and wiper components within training and assigned authority. Vehicle Inspection and Defect Reporting Identify visible leaks, loose components, damaged wiring, body defects, and other wear or damage. Record findings clearly and promptly alert the Fleet Maintenance Manager to conditions that may affect safe operation. Inspect brakes and record brake-lining measurements; review the air system, steering, suspension, wheels and hubs, coupling components, frame, driveline, exhaust, fuel system, and other accessible safety-related components. Perform a thorough vehicle condition inspection using the Company’s PM checklist, including vehicle items commonly covered by a Level I DOT roadside inspection, as applicable to the unit. Basic Repairs and Diagnostic Support Assist higher-level technicians as directed. Completed work and inspection findings are subject to supervisory review before the vehicle is released to service. Follow inspection forms and written troubleshooting procedures, retrieve fault codes with assistance, and recognize when a condition requires further diagnosis. Seek help identifying the root cause and refer complex repairs to a higher-level technician or manager. Perform basic tractor and trailer repairs within training and assigned authority, including lights, wiring, mud flaps, doors, and landing gear; assist a qualified technician with air-brake work when assigned. ELD and Camera Systems As part of a PM, verify that installed ELD and camera equipment is present, secure, connected, and operating as expected; document and report failures, damaged wiring, or missing components. Assist with installation, removal, or replacement of ELD and camera equipment and related wiring when trained and assigned, following Company procedures and escalating faults beyond basic service. Understand the basic components, connections, and wiring used for the Company’s electronic logging devices (ELDs), dash cameras, and side- and rear-facing camera systems. Documentation and Shop Coordination Communicate unit status, parts needs, repair recommendations, and delays to maintenance management; hold and escalate unresolved safety concerns before a unit is releas…
