Diesel Mechanic - Waste & Recycling Fleet
gpacA waste and recycling company is seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic to maintain and repair its fleet of waste collection vehicles. This position offers hands-on work diagnosing mechanical problems, completing repairs, and keeping trucks safe and ready for daily operations. The ideal candidate has strong diesel troubleshooting skills, takes pride in reliable repairs, and works well with drivers and the maintenance team. Key Responsibilities Diagnose and repair diesel engines, transmissions, driveline components, brakes, and electrical systems. Perform preventive maintenance and vehicle inspections, identifying issues before they cause breakdowns. Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic systems, including truck lift systems and collection bodies. Complete tire changes and other routine fleet maintenance. Respond to road calls and assist with vehicle breakdowns as needed. Communicate repair needs, parts requirements, and equipment status to the appropriate team members. Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance, and completed repairs. Follow shop safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area. Qualifications Experience maintaining and repairing heavy-duty diesel trucks. Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities. Working knowledge of diesel engines, air brakes, electrical systems, and hydraulics. Ability to use diagnostic equipment and interpret service manuals. Ability to work independently, prioritize repairs, and communicate effectively. Commitment to safe work practices and quality workmanship. Preferred Qualifications Experience repairing refuse trucks, roll-off trucks, or other waste collection vehicles. Experience performing DOT inspections.
