Diesel Mechanic

Job Description Mares Trucking is seeking a reliable, experienced Diesel Mechanic to join our team in Amarillo, Texas. We operate a fleet consisting primarily of Volvo, Mack, International, and Peterbilt semi-trucks . We are looking for a skilled mechanic with knowledge of modern diesel engines who can perform routine maintenance, diagnose mechanical problems, and complete repairs efficiently. The ideal candidate is dependable, self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently to keep our equipment safe and operating reliably. Key Responsibilities Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on Volvo, Mack, International, and Peterbilt trucks. Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and engine-related issues. Troubleshoot issues involving newer diesel engines and emissions systems, including DPF, DEF, and EGR. Inspect and repair brakes, air systems, suspension, steering, and cooling systems. Identify and address potential mechanical problems before they cause breakdowns. Perform DOT-related inspections and correct safety deficiencies. Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records. Communicate with management regarding equipment condition, needed repairs, and parts. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area. Qualifications Previous hands-on experience repairing heavy-duty diesel trucks required. Experience with Volvo, Mack, International, or Peterbilt trucks strongly preferred. Working knowledge of modern diesel engines and emissions systems. Ability to diagnose and repair common mechanical issues independently. Basic electrical troubleshooting skills. Experience using diesel diagnostic software and scan tools preferred. Knowledge of commercial vehicle safety standards and DOT inspection requirements. Must have their own mechanic tools necessary for routine maintenance and repairs. Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail.
