Carpet TechGENERAL: The primary function and focus of this Division is to conduct hands-on maintenance and repairs of fleet vehicles and equipment scheduled for work through dispatch and the office manager in a timely, efficient, and effective manner. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: The following statements describe the principal functions of this job and its scope of responsibility but should not be considered an all-inclusive listing of work requirements. Individuals may perform other duties as assigned, including working in other functional areas to cover absences or relief, to equalize peak work periods, or otherwise to balance the workload. Works closely with Fleet Manager to ensure a complimentary and cohesive process of vehicle and equipment repairs, rapid turnaround of vehicles and equipment, and quality assurance/ quality control procedures are in place and functioning properly. Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other important parts to ensure that they are in proper operating condition. Adjust and reline brakes, align wheels, tighten bolts and screws, and reassemble equipment. Examine and adjust protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices. Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery. Test drive trucks to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure that they are working properly. Attach test instruments to equipment and read dials and gauges to diagnose malfunctions. Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications. Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers, motor analyzers, chassis charts, or pressure gauges. Recondition and replace parts, pistons, bearings, gears, and valves. Rewire ignition systems, lights, and instrument panels. Align front ends and suspension systems. Inspect, repair, and maintain automotive and mechanical equipment and machinery, such as pumps and compressors. Diagnose and repair vehicle heating and cooling systems. QUALIFICATIONS: This position is subject to the Carpet Tech’s Drug Free Workplace Policy which includes re-employment testing, post-accident testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return to duty testing, and follow-up testing. Thorough knowledge of OSHA standards related to fleet operations. Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to analyze and explain records, reports, and procedures to others. Requires sound judgment regarding use of equipment, tools, material, and manpower. Ability to delegate task in order to complete all projects/tasks as they come due in a timely fashion with no waste of productive time. SPECALIZED SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to communicate tactfully and courteously with business and public management officials and employees. Ability to plan and organize work. Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize tasks, analyze data, and meet multiple deadlines. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
