Diesel Fleet Mechanic – Freightliner & Volvo

Diesel Fleet Mechanic – Freightliner & Volvo QL Express Corp is seeking an experienced diesel mechanic to take responsibility for the maintenance, diagnostics, and repair of our Freightliner and Volvo trucks. This is an on-site position at our private yard in Newark, NJ. You will work exclusively on company equipment and help keep our fleet safe, reliable, and ready for daily operations. We are looking for someone with both hands-on experience and strong technical knowledge who can accurately identify problems, explain the recommended repair, and complete the work correctly. RESPONSIBILITIES Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on Freightliner and Volvo trucks. Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and electronic problems using diagnostic software, testing equipment, and technical documentation. Troubleshoot and service diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, air systems, suspension, steering, cooling systems, and air conditioning. Diagnose and repair emissions-related problems involving DEF, DPF, and SCR systems. Find the root cause of a problem, recommend the appropriate repair, and identify the required parts. Inspect trucks, identify upcoming maintenance needs, and prioritize repairs to reduce downtime. Verify repairs through appropriate testing and operational checks. Maintain service records and communicate each truck’s condition and repair status. Keep tools and the work area organized. REQUIREMENTS Proven hands-on experience maintaining and repairing Freightliner and Volvo heavy-duty trucks. Strong troubleshooting skills, including the ability to test components and identify the cause of a failure beyond simply reading fault codes. Own tools, diagnostic computer, and software compatible with Freightliner and Volvo trucks. Ability to read wiring diagrams, service information, and diagnostic procedures. Ability to work independently and manage the maintenance needs of a company fleet. Dependability, attention to detail, and a commitment to quality workmanship. A resume outlining relevant work history, technical skills, and experience with specific engines and transmissions. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Technical education in diesel mechanics or a related field. Relevant certifications or training in diesel engines, electrical diagnostics, transmissions, or emissions systems. Previous experience maintaining a trucking company’s fleet. Experience with Detroit Diesel and Volvo D13 engines. Spanish-speaking or bilingual English/Spanish candidates are welcome. COMPENSATION AND WORK ENVIRONMENT Weekly pay.
