Diesel/fleet Mechanic

Job Overview Smith Sanitation Services is looking for a dependable, hands-on mechanic to maintain and repair our fleet of garbage trucks and equipment. This role offers varied work, direct communication with management, and the oppertunity to take ownership of keep our fleet ready for daily routes. Responsibilities Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical , hydraulic , and diesel engine issues. Perform preventive maintenance, oil changes, greasing, and fleet inspections. Complete dumpster repairs and welding or fabrication work as needed. Respond to breakdowns and coordinate roadside repairs with management. Order parts, track parts costs, and maintain accurate work orders in our company system Test completed repairs before returning trucks to service. Keep the shop clean, organized, and safe. What we're looking for Experience repairing diesel trucks or heavy equipment. Strong troubleshooting skills, including electrical and hydraulic systems. Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and follow through on repairs. Clear communication about repair progress, parts needs, and delays. Dependable see attendance and a commitment to safe, quality work. Garbage truck experience and welding skills are a plus.
