Job Summary: The Advanced Motor Technology team is seeking a Design Engineering Specialist – Electromagnetic Design to provide technical leadership for the electromagnetic design, analysis, and optimization of Caterpillar's electric motor and generator portfolio. This position will serve as a recognized technical expert responsible for developing next-generation electromagnetic solutions supporting electrified machine platforms across construction, mining, industrial, and power applications. The successful candidate will lead electromagnetic technology development activities spanning concept creation, architecture selection, detailed design, validation, manufacturing support, and product integration. The role requires close collaboration with mechanical design, controls, validation, manufacturing, supply chain, and product teams to deliver electric machine solutions that achieve best-in-class performance, efficiency, durability, manufacturability, and cost. What You Will Do: Technical Leadership Serve as the technical authority for electromagnetic design of electric motors and generators, establishing architectures, design strategies, and technical direction for current and future machine platforms. Drive performance targets including efficiency, power density, torque density, losses, reliability, and overall system optimization while guiding key technology and architecture decisions. Mentor and develop engineering talent, strengthening organizational capability in electromagnetic analysis, machine design, and advanced simulation methods. Electromagnetic Design & Analysis Lead the electromagnetic design, analysis, and optimization of electric machines using analytical, simulation-based, and test-correlated methods across IPM, SPM, synchronous reluctance, switched reluctance, and induction machine topologies. Conduct trade studies and detailed evaluations of torque production, efficiency, losses, flux behavior, harmonics, demagnetization risk, NVH excitation, and fault performance to support design decisions. Optimize machine designs for performance, manufacturability, reliability, and cost while validating results through motor characterization, testing, and correlation with experimental data. Technology Development Lead New Technology Introduction (NTI) initiatives by evaluating emerging motor and generator technologies and developing roadmaps that support future product requirements.
