Design Assistant / Project Coordinator Interior Design Firm | Birmingham, Michigan Established Birmingham interior design firm is seeking a highly organized, resourceful Design Assistant / Project Coordinator to work closely with the principal designer and small office team on high-end residential and commercial interior design projects. This is a hands-on support role that combines traditional interior design assistance with project coordination, purchasing, client billing, vendor communication and day-to-day support of the principal designer. The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys being the person who keeps track of the details and keeps projects moving. The position requires flexibility, strong follow-through and the ability to take verbal direction, organize it into tasks and through to completion. Responsibilities Assist the principal designer with multiple active residential and commercial interior design projects. Maintain awareness of project decisions, outstanding questions, approvals and next steps. Create and revise client proposals in Studio Designer Software. Request vendor quotes, pricing, stock information, freight estimates and lead times. Keep track of product specifications, vendor information, pricing, quantities, freight and other project information. Prepare client billing, deposit requests, balance requests, statements and supporting documentation. Track and enter project-related billable time and assist with preparation of quarterly principal hourly billing. Follow up with vendors, showrooms, manufacturers and workrooms regarding open orders and outstanding information. Coordinate fabrics, cuttings, drawings, strike-offs, finish samples and other materials for approval. Assist with specifications for furniture, upholstery, rugs, lighting, stone, window treatments and other custom products. Order, organize and track samples and project materials. Create PowerPoint presentations. Attend client meetings as needed and assist with presenting/casting project materials, answering project questions and taking detailed notes. Qualifications Interior design industry experience preferred. Experience working in a design firm, showroom, furniture/textile company or related trade environment is helpful. Studio Designer Software experience preferred. Microsoft PowerPoint skills. Excellent written communication and professional email skills. Very organized with strong attention to detail. Comfortable working with numbers, pricing, dimensions and basic project billing. Able to manage multiple active projects. Strong problem-solving skills. Good communication skills in the context of working with high-end vendors, showrooms, workrooms and clients. Strong memory and/or disciplined note-taking and organizational systems. Basic understanding of furniture, textiles, upholstery and the interior design procurement process is preferred. This position is best suited to someone working directly with a principal designer in a small, fast-moving office. The successful candidate will be comfortable switching between tasks without losing track of details, following up with vendors and clients, maintaining continuity across ongoing conversations and projects. This role is a good fit for someone who is willing to work the behind-the-scenes execution of interior design - the proposals, presentations, vendor communication, purchasing and problem-solving required to turn design ideas into beautiful, completed projects. Pay: $85,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year Work Location: In person
