Data Operations Engineer (Migration & Analytics) contract opportunity with our client in San Jose, CA.

The Data Operations team enables seamless, high‑quality data usage across the company by building scalable data models and best practices. We partner closely with engineering, analytics, and business stakeholders to design, deploy, and maintain reliable data products that support a growing organization.

In this role, you will support the migration of dbt models from Redshift and Snowflake to Trino (Iceberg), ensuring SQL compatibility, performance, and adherence to modern data modeling best practices. Youll refactor and optimize models, manage version control through Git, and collaborate with analytics and BI teams to validate downstream impacts, including Tableau assets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Migrate and refactor dbt models from Redshift/Snowflake to Trino (Iceberg)
  • Translate SQL across multiple dialects and optimize for performance
  • Apply dbt best practices, including macros and Jinja templating
  • Version control and manage dbt projects using Git
  • Partner with analytics teams and Tableau workbook owners to test and validate changes
  • Collaborate daily with engineers to execute migration priorities

Qualifications

  • BS/BA in a technical field (or equivalent experience)
  • 2+ years in data engineering, BI, or analytics
  • 1+ year in financial services and/or SaaS environments
  • Strong SQL skills across Redshift, Snowflake, and Trino (Iceberg)
  • Hands‑on experience with dbt and modern data modeling
  • Experience with Tableau or similar BI tools
  • Comfortable working in fast‑paced, startup environments

Rate: $50-$60 hour
