Position Summary We are seeking an experienced Customs Entry Writer to manage the preparation, submission, and coordination of U.S. Customs entries for both air and ocean import shipments. The ideal candidate has strong knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations, HTS classification, Partner Government Agency (PGA) requirements, and complex customs entries. This position requires excellent attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to independently manage customs clearance from documentation review through final release. Key Responsibilities Coordinate the end-to-end customs clearance process for air and ocean import shipments. Prepare, review, and transmit customs entries accurately and within required deadlines. Review commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, air waybills, arrival notices, and other import documentation. Determine appropriate Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classifications based on product information and supporting documentation. Calculate applicable duties, taxes, fees, and other customs charges . Ensure compliance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) requirements and applicable federal regulations. Identify and manage Partner Government Agency (PGA) requirements, including: Food and Drug Administration (FDA) U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service Lacey Act Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) Handle routine and complex customs entries ranging from approximately 1–35 lines , as well as high-volume entries exceeding 100 lines . Monitor shipments and proactively resolve documentation, classification, valuation, admissibility, or regulatory issues that could delay customs clearance. Communicate with importers, customers, carriers, airlines, steamship lines, freight forwarders, and government agencies as necessary. Review entry documentation for accuracy and completeness prior to submission. Maintain accurate customs records and supporting documentation in accordance with regulatory and company requirements. Prepare and process Post Summary Corrections (PSCs) when entry information requires amendment. Assist with or prepare Customs Protests involving classification, valuation, duty, or other entry-related matters. Research HTS classifications, customs regulations, rulings, and PGA requirements as necessary. Escalate complex compliance issues appropriately while maintaining timely communication with customers and internal teams. Qualifications 5+ years of customs entry writing/import brokerage experience , with demonstrated stability and progressive responsibility preferred. Strong hands-on experience processing both air and ocean entries . Demonstrated proficiency with HTS classification . Strong understanding of customs valuation, duties, taxes, and applicable fees. Working knowledge of CBP regulations and ACE . Experience handling PGA-regulated commodities, particularly FDA, USDA, Fish & Wildlife, Lacey Act, and TTB. Experience preparing Post Summary Corrections and Protests . Ability to independently process both standard and complex, multi-line customs entries. Strong attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies before entry submission. Ability to prioritize multiple shipments and meet strict customs and customer deadlines. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency with customs brokerage/entry software and Microsoft Office applications. Preferred Qualifications Experience working for a customs broker, freight forwarder, or international logistics company. Experience managing high-volume and complex import accounts. Familiarity with ACE, CBP rulings, HTS research tools, and import compliance procedures. Customs Broker License or active pursuit of a license is a plus but not required.
