CUSTOMS ENTRY WRITER

Job Overview We are seeking an experienced Customs Entry Writer to join our Customs Brokerage department. The Entry Writer will be responsible for preparing, reviewing, and transmitting accurate U.S. Customs entries and maintaining complete entry documentation while ensuring compliance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) requirements and other applicable government agency regulations. The ideal candidate has 3–5 years of direct customs entry writing experience, strong knowledge of HTS classification, CBP Form 7501 and customs entry documentation, and the ability to independently manage entries from document receipt through CBP release and entry summary documentation. Our team currently uses ACE Lynk for customs entry processing and Magaya for shipment and operational management. Key Responsibilities Prepare and transmit U.S. Customs entries through ACE Lynk. Prepare, review, and verify CBP Form 7501 (Entry Summary) for accuracy and completeness. Ensure information reported on the 7501 agrees with the commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading/air waybill, arrival information, and other supporting entry documentation. Verify HTS classifications, entered values, quantities, country of origin, manufacturer information, duty rates, fees, and applicable special tariff provisions reported on the entry. Review and maintain complete entry documentation packages, including CBP Form 7501, commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading/air waybills, arrival notices, certificates of origin, permits, PGA documentation, and other required supporting records. Review commercial documentation for discrepancies or missing information prior to entry transmission. Determine and verify appropriate HTS classifications based on product descriptions and supporting documentation. Apply applicable duty rates, Chapter 98/99 provisions, Section 301 duties, trade remedies, AD/CVD requirements, and other applicable tariff provisions. Determine eligibility for applicable free trade agreements and preferential duty programs when appropriate. Identify shipments requiring Partner Government Agency (PGA) filings, including FDA, USDA, EPA, DOT, FCC, and other agencies as applicable. Prepare and transmit PGA data when required. Review entry documentation prior to submission to identify potential classification, valuation, origin, admissibility, or compliance issues. Monitor entries for CBP release, holds, examinations, document requests, and other status changes. Respond to CBP requests and coordinate resolution of entry-related issues. Communicate with importers, carriers, freight forwarders, warehouses, and internal departments to obtain missing documents and resolve discrepancies. Maintain accurate shipment and customer information in Magaya. Upload and maintain entry documentation and shipment records in company systems. Verify that required Customs Powers of Attorney, bonds, importer information, and supporting documentation are on file prior to entry processing. Review continuous and single transaction bond requirements and identify potential bond issues. Monitor entry deadlines and ensure entries and entry summaries are transmitted within applicable timeframes. Assist with entry corrections, Post Summary Corrections (PSCs), protests, and other post-entry matters as assigned. Assist with CBP Form 28 Requests for Information, CBP Form 29 Notices of Action, and other CBP compliance matters. Maintain complete and organized customs entry files in accordance with applicable CBP recordkeeping requirements and company procedures. Perform internal review of entry files to ensure the 7501 and supporting documentation are complete and consistent. Follow internal Standard Operating Procedures and customs brokerage compliance procedures. Escalate classification, valuation, admissibility, AD/CVD, PGA, or other compliance concerns to management or the Customs Broker when appropriate.
