Crane Operator Apprentice / Class 1 Driver

Crane Operator Apprentice/Class 1 Driver We are seeking a motivated and safety-conscious individual to join our team in Winnipeg. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Class 1 driver with Super B experience who is interested in pursuing a career as a crane operator, or an existing crane operator apprentice who holds a valid Class 1 driver's licence. This is a union hourly position with wages, benefits, and pension as per the applicable collective agreement. Occasional overtime and out-of-town travel are required. Key Responsibilities Transportation and Equipment Hauling - Transport crane components, equipment, and construction materials to and from job sites. - Safely operate Class 1 commercial vehicles and manoeuvre Super B trailers in a variety of conditions. - Complete required hours-of-service records, vehicle inspections, and transportation documentation. Crane Operations and Apprenticeship Training - Assist with crane assembly, dismantling, setup, and rigging, including booms, extensions, and hook blocks. - Learn to operate various types of mobile cranes, including all-terrain cranes, crawler cranes, truck-mounted cranes, and rough-terrain cranes. - Assist with lifting, moving, positioning, and placing equipment and materials. - Develop an understanding of crane load charts, lifting capacities, rigging requirements, and safe hoisting practices. - Perform pre-operational inspections and assist with determining load weights, crane capacities, and appropriate rigging configurations. - Perform routine crane inspections, cleaning, lubrication, and maintenance as required. - Maintain accurate records, safety reports, and other job-related documentation. - Follow all applicable health, safety, and environmental requirements and remain alert to job-site conditions that may affect safe crane operations. Qualifications and Requirements - Valid Class 1 driver's licence. - Super B hauling experience is a strong asset. - Previous crane operation, heavy equipment operation, or crane apprenticeship experience is an asset. - Experience in the crane rental industry, including taxi crane work, is an asset. - Willingness to learn, develop crane operating skills, and progress through apprenticeship training as applicable. - Strong commitment to workplace safety and safe equipment operation. - Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team. - Reliable, motivated, and dedicated work ethic. - Willingness to work occasional overtime and travel to various job sites, including out-of-town locations. - Must be a member in good standing with the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 987, or be willing and eligible to join.
