Cost & Inventory Analyst

Reports to: CFO Location: Remote Compensation : Starting at $30/hour (based on experience) Role Overview: We are seeking an accounting or business student, recent graduate, or early-career professional interested in gaining hands-on experience in cost accounting, inventory management, and business analysis. This position offers the opportunity to apply accounting principles to real manufacturing operations, analyze business performance, and help clients improve inventory accuracy, production costing, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, comfortable with spreadsheets, and eager to learn how businesses manage the financial side of manufacturing and distribution. Main Responsibilities: Cost Accounting & Inventory Analysis Analyze inventory values, product costs, and cost of goods sold (COGS). Assist with raw material, labor, and manufacturing cost calculations. Develop product costing models and inventory reports. Help reconcile inventory records and accounting data. Identify cost variances and opportunities for operational improvement. Business & Financial Analysis Organize and analyze financial and operational data. Build Excel models, reports, and performance dashboards. Track inventory turnover, production efficiency, and key financial metrics. Support budgeting, forecasting, and profitability analysis. Inventory & Business Systems Assist with inventory and accounting software implementation. Review inventory transactions and data accuracy. Help clients improve purchasing, production, and inventory reporting. Support data migration and reconciliation between business systems. Consulting & Project Support Prepare client reports, spreadsheets, and presentations. Support consultants with research and financial analysis. Organize project information and document findings. Participate in client projects involving manufacturing, inventory, and business operations. Technology & Process Improvement Use Excel, Google Sheets, and business software to improve reporting. Apply AI and automation tools to streamline routine analysis and documentation. Assist with developing practical tools for business and accounting workflows. Required Skills & Qualifications Preferred Background Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field. Interest in cost accounting, inventory management, manufacturing, or financial analysis. Understanding of basic accounting principles and financial statements. Good Excel skills, including formulas, data organization, and analysis. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities. Attention to detail and willingness to learn. Helpful but Not Required Coursework in managerial or cost accounting. Familiarity with inventory valuation, standard costing, or COGS. Experience with QuickBooks or other accounting software. Exposure to ERP or inventory systems such as Wherefour. Experience with Smartsheet, Power BI, or data visualization tools. Familiarity with AI productivity tools.
