Controller (12-Month Contract)

As Evercloak scales its membrane-based dehumidification technology (EverDROP™), this new role will oversee financial strategy, cash flow management, budgeting, and routine accounting. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical capabilities, technical excellence, and a hands-on "doer" mentality to take full ownership of our core financial processes and month-end close in a startup environment. What Would I Be Doing? Financial Leadership: Build, scale, and own our entire financial infrastructure, accounting processes, and internal controls for a high-growth environment. Grant Management: Own the end-to-end administration of grant claims, ensuring compliance, proper tracking, and timely reimbursement filings, including the annual SR&ED tax filing. Venture & Investor Relations: Maintain the cap table, assist with future fundraising due diligence, and prepare monthly/quarterly financial packages for venture capital investors. Full-Cycle Accounting: Manage daily bookkeeping, accounts payable/receivable (AP/AR), general ledger, and reconciliation. Cost Accounting & Inventory Optimization: Oversee product cost accounting (COGS, bill of materials, vendor commitments) and monitor logistics/holding expenses to optimize inventory cash flow. Planning & Analysis: Lead budgeting, forecasting, cash flow modeling, reporting, and capital allocation to optimize our runway. Compliance & Payroll: Oversee tax compliance, monthly payroll processing, benefits administration, and multi-state/global employment regulations. Serve as the internal liaison for external auditors and tax advisors What Are We Looking For? Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field. CPA designation (Canada or US) is required. 6+ years of progressive finance/accounting experience, ideally within a startup, scale-up, or manufacturing environment. A "doer" mentality with high integrity, technical precision, and a willingness to own daily operational details alongside executive leadership. Solid understanding of financial strategy, cash flow modeling, full-cycle accounting principles, and statutory compliance. Hands-on proficiency with cloud accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks Online) and ERP platforms. Advanced Excel skills (vlookups, index/match, pivot tables, financial modeling) required. Experience or familiarity with government grants, non-dilutive funding, or SR&ED claims is a plus. Strong analytical capabilities, organizational skills, clear verbal and written communication, and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. Experience in a hardware, manufacturing, or product-based business, with a strong understanding of cost accounting, inventory management, procurement, supplier commitments, and their impact on cash flow. Experience taking a company from pre-revenue to commercialization preferred.
