Sync Executive PartnersAbout the role We are hiring a contract Back-Office AI & Workflow Automation Lead for a growing U.S. aerospace and defense company. Several contracts are cost-plus, so every change has to hold up under DCAA review. You will find where the back office loses time and money, then use AI and workflow automation to fix it. You will build the automations yourself and hand them to a team that can run them. What you will do Map current back-office processes across all three businesses: accounts payable, billing and accounts receivable, timekeeping and labor, expenses, purchasing, contracts administration, month-end close and management reporting. Rank automation opportunities by hours saved, cost, risk and fit with the new financial system. Build AI agents and automated workflows, for example invoice capture and coding, three-way match, timesheet exception review, contract and modification abstraction, close checklists, and variance commentary drafts. Choose and set up the tools: LLM platforms (Claude, ChatGPT Enterprise or Microsoft Copilot), Power Automate, UiPath or n8n, and document AI for invoices and contracts. Connect automations to Costpoint or Unanet, the CRM, HR and payroll systems and the procurement and inventory tools used by the fab shop. Keep controls intact: audit trails, human review where DCAA or FAR rules require it, and no automation that weakens timekeeping, billing or cost allowability. Keep controlled unclassified information (CUI) in approved environments that meet NIST SP 800-171 and CMMC requirements. Measure results, write the runbooks and train staff to own each workflow. Give the operating model lead the data needed to size the future back-office team and costs. What you bring 5+ years automating finance or back-office work, with at least 3 years in government contracting. Live AI or LLM workflows you built and put into production, with results you can measure. Hands-on use of Deltek Costpoint, Unanet or JAMIS, including their APIs or data exports.
