About the Opportunity A growing heavy civil construction company is seeking a highly capable Accounting Coordinator with Purchasing and Purchase Order (PO) responsibilities to support its Controller and strengthen internal accounting and operational processes. This organization is focused on operational excellence, disciplined financial management, and sustainable growth. The selected candidate will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting job profitability, and ensuring purchasing processes run efficiently across multiple projects and departments. Position Overview The Accounting Coordinator will manage day-to-day accounting functions while also overseeing purchasing workflows, vendor coordination, and purchase order administration. This role is critical in ensuring financial accuracy, proper job cost allocation, and timely procurement of materials, equipment, and services needed to support field operations and project execution. The ideal candidate will have prior experience working in a construction environment and hands-on experience with Sage 100 or a similar ERP system. Key Responsibilities Manage full-cycle Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) functions Process and review invoices with accurate job cost coding Maintain vendor files including W-9s, Certificates of Insurance (COIs), and lien releases Assist with subcontractor billing and payment processing Perform bank and credit card reconciliations Prepare journal entries and assist with month-end close Maintain integrity and accuracy within the company ERP/accounting system Purchasing & Purchase Orders Create, issue, and track purchase orders for materials, rentals, equipment, and services Coordinate with field teams, project managers, and vendors to ensure purchasing needs are met on time Verify pricing, quantities, and approvals prior to PO issuance Monitor open purchase orders and follow up on outstanding deliveries or invoices Match purchase orders, receipts, and vendor invoices for accuracy Assist in developing purchasing procedures and internal controls Build and maintain strong vendor relationships to support pricing and service levels Job Cost & Project Support Assist in tracking job costs and cost allocations Support Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules Monitor committed costs and change order documentation Coordinate with Project Managers regarding billing readiness Ensure timely and accurate project cost reporting Controls & Reporting Maintain organized financial and purchasing documentation Support internal audits and reporting processes Identify inefficiencies and recommend process improvements Help strengthen internal controls across accounting and purchasing functions Required Qualifications 3–5+ years of accounting experience in the construction industry Experience with Sage 100 or similar ERP/accounting software Experience with purchasing, procurement, or purchase order processes Strong understanding of construction job costing AP/AR experience Proficiency in Microsoft Excel High attention to detail and strong organizational skills Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Project Management, and field teams Strong communication and follow-up skills What We’re Looking For A proactive professional who takes ownership Strong systems thinker with ERP experience Someone comfortable in a growing, fast-paced environment A dependable team player who balances urgency with accuracy A long-term contributor seeking growth opportunity Pay: From $25.00 per hour Benefits: 401(k) 401(k) matching Dental insurance Employee assistance program Health insurance Life insurance Paid time off Parental leave Retirement plan Vision insurance Application Question(s): What are your compensation expectations for this opportunity as far as an hourly rate?
