JOB SUMMARY Safely transporting livestock with attention to biosecurity protocols, proper vehicle operation and ensuring equipment is in safe working order. Providing customer service while following the highest biosecurity standards in the livestock transportation industry. Teamwork, safety focus, customer service and a positive attitude are essential in this position. ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES Driving Operate equipment in a safe professional manner to haul livestock according to assigned trip schedule Follow all applicable traffic laws and transportation regulations. Pre-trip planning to ensure routes and stops meet delivery schedules and ensure animal welfare Arrive at the farm at least 30 minutes prior to loading to spread bedding and prepare the trailer for loading Use & Care of Equipment Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections Identify and report damage and equipment defects Maintain and ensure basic service of equipment as needed (refuel, check oil, tire pressure, frozen brakes, etc.) Responsible for daily cleaning of the inside of the tractor Fully understand how to operate and safely drive assigned vehicle Scrape the trailer after each load Animal Handling Ensure humane and ethical treatment of animals at all times Load and unload animals (based on farm or company requirements) according to trip schedule and schematics Follow guidelines in Driver Handbook on Animal Handling and TQA Follow bedding and boarding requirements located in the Driver Handbook Adhere to biosecurity protocols Customer Service Strive to meet delivery appointments and communicate in advance if running late Provide excellent customer service Maintain company and customer confidentially General Duties Follow all company policies and procedures as defined in Driver Handbook & License Book Communicate with Dispatcher to inform of any problems or concerns that arise throughout a trip. Take all necessary steps to complete and submit all paperwork required by the company by the appropriate deadline (logs, bill of lading, scale tickets, etc.) Utilize the Mobile Communication System as required QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Possess a valid Commercial Driving License and Air Brake Endorsement Provide proof of driving abstract and criminal record that meet company hiring criteria Follow written and oral instructions in English; complete written forms and documents in English Ability to operate computer and electronic devices – including mobile communication systems, routing, mileage and mapping software, cellular phones Will be required to attain TQA certification (training provided) PREFERRED SKILLS Customer Services skills Clear communication skills Mechanically inclined WORKING CONDITIONS Flexibility in schedule changes is required Night driving Scrape the trailer after each load Work with animals inside a livestock trailer Trailer work include lifting, pushing and pulling ramps and decking Work outside in all weather conditions Smoking prohibited in company trucks
