Position Summary We are seeking a reliable, safety-conscious, and experienced Commercial Salt Truck Operator (DZ) to join our winter operations team. Previous, verifiable experience operating commercial salt trucks and spreading equipment is strictly required for this role. You will be responsible for operating heavy commercial vehicles to execute anti-icing and salting routes efficiently during winter weather events, ensuring safe and accessible commercial properties throughout the Greater Toronto Area. Key Responsibilities Route Execution: Safely operate DZ commercial salt trucks to perform pre-salting, de-icing, and post-storm cleanup operations according to designated site maps and priority schedules. Equipment Calibration & Operation: Properly operate spreader controls, tailgate spinners, and liquid anti-icing systems, adjusting application rates according to weather conditions, temperature, and surface types. Pre- & Post-Trip Inspections: Conduct thorough circle checks of vehicles and spreading equipment prior to departure, documenting defects and ensuring compliance with Ministry of Transportation (MTO) regulations. Site Awareness: Navigate tight commercial, industrial, or retail properties safely, avoiding obstacles such as curbs, light standards, parked vehicles, and pedestrian walkways. Communication & Reporting: Maintain clear communication with dispatch and operations supervisors regarding weather changes, site conditions, equipment issues, or completion status. Complete daily logs and shift reports accurately. Material Loading: Assist with or manage the safe loading of salt/aggregate materials into trucks using heavy equipment (e.g., loaders) when required. Qualifications & Requirements Licensing: Valid Ontario Class AZ or DZ driver’s license with a clean or near-clean commercial abstract. Required Experience: Minimum 1–2 consecutive seasons of proven, hands-on experience operating commercial salt trucks and winter spreading equipment (mandatory requirement; general dump truck or straight truck experience alone will not be considered). Industry Knowledge: Strong familiarity with local winter weather patterns, anti-icing/de-icing products, and standard application techniques for commercial properties. Flexibility & Reliability: Winter operations require 24/7 on-call availability. Must be willing to work irregular hours, overnight shifts, weekends, and holidays based on weather forecasts and storm events. Physical Fitness: Ability to endure long, sedentary periods of driving combined with intermittent outdoor physical work in severe winter conditions.
