The business is looking to appoint an experienced ocean export professional who can combine operational expertise with a commercial mindset, supporting existing customer relationships while identifying opportunities for further growth. This is an opportunity to work closely with senior leadership, gain exposure to the commercial side of the business, and develop toward a broader management position. About the Role The Commercial Export Manager will play a key role in supporting and developing the company's ocean export business, with a particular focus on agricultural and commodity shipments. This is not a traditional sales position, and an existing book of business is not required. The company is looking for someone with strong ocean export knowledge who understands the operational process but also has the commercial awareness to develop customer relationships, identify opportunities, and contribute to business growth. You will work directly alongside the company President, gaining exposure to customer development, carrier relationships, pricing, and wider business operations. For the right individual, there is a genuine opportunity to progress into senior leadership or branch management as the business continues to develop. Key Responsibilities Manage and develop customer relationships across agricultural and commodity exports Support international ocean export operations and customer requirements Develop transportation solutions incorporating ocean freight, trucking, rail, transloading, and warehousing Work closely with senior leadership on customer development and commercial opportunities Support carrier negotiations, pricing, equipment availability, and space requirements Identify opportunities to grow existing customer accounts and generate additional revenue Evaluate new business opportunities based on profitability, operational requirements, and long-term potential Coordinate with internal operations teams to ensure efficient shipment execution Maintain strong relationships with shipping lines, transportation providers, and customers Resolve operational and customer issues proactively Represent the business during customer meetings and industry events Take on increasing commercial and leadership responsibility as the role develops Candidate Requirements Strong experience within ocean export operations Background working for an NVOCC or international freight forwarder Previous exposure to agricultural, food, or commodity exports is strongly preferred Good understanding of ocean carrier contracts, export documentation, and international shipping procedures Knowledge of inland transportation, including trucking, rail, and transloading Commercial awareness and an interest in developing customer relationships Experience supporting account growth, pricing, or customer development would be advantageous Strong communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of responsibilities Ambition to progress into a senior management or leadership position Must be willing to work onsite in San Clemente, CA What You Can Expect Up to $130,000 base salary, depending on experience Performance-based earning potential linked to business growth Direct exposure to and mentorship from the company President Opportunity to develop commercially without requiring an existing customer portfolio Genuine progression toward branch management or senior leadership Established operational infrastructure to support customer development Autonomy to contribute to commercial decisions and business growth Relocation assistance considered for the right candidate…
