CDL-A Truck Driver / Independent Contractor Lil Devils Transport | Part-Time OTR Dry Van Job Description Lil Devils Transport is seeking a dependable, professional CDL-A driver for a part-time, over-the-road (OTR) dry van operation. IMPORTANT: This is a part-time, slip-seat position. Drivers must be comfortable sharing equipment with another driver and being out on the road for 10–14 days every four weeks. This position is ideal for an experienced OTR driver looking for a part-time opportunity with the potential for additional driving time and possible full-time employment in early 2027. This is strictly an OTR position. Local or regional driving experience alone does not satisfy the minimum experience requirement. Position Type & Schedule Employment type: Part-time independent contractor. Operation: Over-the-road (OTR) dry van. Schedule: Approximately 10–14 days on the road every four weeks. Equipment: Slip-seat operation; the truck will be shared with another driver. Additional driving opportunities: The schedule may expand to include more time on the road as another driver requires relief coverage. Potential full-time opportunity: The position may transition to full-time beginning in early 2027, depending on operational needs and availability. Applicants must be comfortable with extended periods away from home, rotating equipment use, and coordinating with another driver. Additional driving time and a transition to full-time are possibilities, not guarantees. Compensation & Expenses Pay: Percentage-based compensation, as outlined in the independent contractor agreement. Pay schedule: Every Friday. Fuel: Paid by the company. Maintenance and repairs: Paid by the company. Tolls: Paid by the company. Commercial vehicle insurance: Paid by the company. Occupational accident insurance: Driver's responsibility. Escrow: $2,000, subject to the written contractor agreement and applicable law. Minimum Qualifications Valid CDL-A. Minimum of two years of verifiable over-the-road (OTR) trucking experience. Experience must be in long-haul OTR operations. Local or regional driving experience alone does not qualify. Ability to meet applicable DOT/FMCSA qualification and drug and alcohol testing requirements. Strong communication skills, dependability, and a professional attitude. Ability to follow dispatch instructions, safety procedures, and equipment-use policies. Willingness to work a part-time rotating slip-seat schedule. English Language Proficiency — Required In accordance with 49 CFR § 391.11(b)(2), drivers must be able to read and speak English sufficiently to: Converse with the general public. Understand highway traffic signs and signals. Respond to official inquiries. Make entries on reports and records. English proficiency is an essential safety and regulatory requirement for this position. Job Responsibilities Safely operate company-provided equipment in interstate OTR dry van operations. Follow dispatch and operating requirements of the motor carrier the equipment is leased onto. Perform required pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections. Maintain accurate logs, bills of lading, delivery paperwork, and other required records. Communicate professionally with dispatch, customers, shippers, and receivers. Keep the truck clean and in good operating condition. Coordinate equipment handoffs and communicate relevant truck condition or maintenance concerns to the other driver. Promptly report accidents, mechanical issues, damage, and safety concerns. Comply with applicable DOT/FMCSA regulations and company policies.
