Class A OTR Truck Driver
Mayflower DistributingDuties Safely operate a Class A tractor-trailer to retrieve and transport helium in compliance with DOT, FMCSA, hazardous materials, and company requirements. Complete long-haul trips originating in Cerritos, CA with routes being based on business needs; travel approximately 120,000 miles annually within hours-of-service limits. Plan routes and rest stops around schedules, traffic, weather, and road restrictions; promptly communicate delays or unsafe conditions. Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections; report vehicle defects, maintenance needs, accidents, and other safety concerns promptly. Assist with loading and unloading; verify and secure cargo and follow product-specific handling and personal protective equipment procedures. Verify required shipping papers, placards, and emergency response information; follow hazardous materials handling and security procedures. Maintain accurate electronic logs, inspection reports, mileage records, delivery documents, and trip expense records. Maintain professional service and communication, keep equipment clean and orderly, and complete required safety training. Education / Experience Valid Class A CDL with a current Hazardous Materials endorsement and any additional endorsements required for assigned equipment and cargo. At least two years of verifiable Class A tractor-trailer experience, including independent interstate driving; three or more years and recent OTR experience preferred. Previous hazardous materials, helium, or industrial gas hauling experience preferred. At least 21 years of age and qualified for interstate commercial driving under applicable DOT and FMCSA requirements. Current DOT medical certification, or ability to obtain it before driving, and ability to maintain required medical qualification. Driving and safety history that meets regulatory, company, and insurance requirements; no current CDL suspension, revocation, or disqualification. Working knowledge of hours-of-service rules, vehicle inspections, cargo securement, and hazardous materials requirements. Ability to use electronic logging devices, navigation tools, mobile communications, and basic digital documentation systems. Ability to read and speak English sufficiently to meet federal commercial-driver requirements, including understanding signs, responding to official inquiries, and completing records. Ability to meet DOT drug and alcohol testing and FMCSA Clearinghouse requirements and complete required qualification reviews and road testing or an accepted equivalent. Availability for overnight and multiday travel, including variable hours and weekends as routes require. High school diploma or GED preferred.
