Class A CDL Yard Jockey / Shuttle Driver – Mid shift
Evergreen CompaniesPosition Summary Evergreen Recycling is looking for a dependable Class A CDL Yard Jockey / Shuttle Driver to support our second-shift recycling operations. This is not a traditional over-the-road driving position . The primary responsibility is keeping trailers, equipment, and material moving efficiently between our yard and warehouse operations. The position will spend much of the shift spotting and moving trailers, shuttling material between nearby company facilities, and supporting shipping and receiving. We are looking for someone who is comfortable working independently, safely maneuvering tractor-trailers in tight areas, and helping wherever needed to keep second-shift operations moving. Primary Responsibilities Spot, stage, hook, unhook, and relocate 53-foot dry van trailers throughout the yard. Shuttle trailers and recyclable material between company warehouses/facilities. Position trailers accurately at loading docks and designated staging areas. Maintain organized trailer staging and help prevent yard congestion. Perform pre-trip/post-trip inspections and report equipment defects immediately. Verify trailer numbers and ensure the correct trailer is moved to the correct location. Coordinate trailer movements with warehouse supervisors, shipping/receiving, and dispatch. Move empty and loaded trailers as required by the daily operating plan. Assist with forklift operation and material handling when needed. Help load, unload, stage, or relocate recyclable materials when operationally necessary. Perform basic trailer condition inspections, including tires, lights, doors, landing gear, floors, glad hands, and visible damage. Maintain accurate movement paperwork/logs and communicate completed moves. Fuel equipment when necessary and maintain basic cleanliness of assigned equipment. Keep the yard, dock areas, and trailer staging areas organized and safe. Report damaged trailers, unsafe conditions, spills, blocked areas, or other safety concerns. Assist with other warehouse, transportation, or yard duties during downtime. Requirements Required: Valid Class A CDL Acceptable driving record Ability to safely back and maneuver tractor-trailers in tight spaces Ability to repeatedly enter/exit tractors, connect air lines, raise/lower landing gear, and perform physical yard duties Dependable attendance and ability to work with limited supervision Ability to follow safety procedures and communicate effectively with warehouse and transportation personnel Willingness to perform both driving and non-driving duties Preferred, but not required: Previous yard jockey, spotter, hostler, shuttle, warehouse, recycling, waste, manufacturing, or distribution-center experience Forklift experience/certification Experience with 53-foot dry vans Experience spotting trailers at dock doors Familiarity with trailer inspections and basic DOT requirements Forklift certification is NOT required to apply. We can provide forklift training/certification on the job. What We're Looking For The ideal candidate isn't someone looking to sit in a truck for the entire shift. We want someone who takes ownership of the yard and keeps material and trailers moving. A strong employee in this position will notice when a trailer needs to be moved, a dock needs to be cleared, material needs to be transferred, or equipment needs attention—and handle it without having to be continuously directed. Compensation $20.00–$23.00/hour , depending on relevant CDL, yard jockey, forklift, warehouse, and material-handling experience. Full-time position with overtime opportunities depending on operational needs.
