Class 1 Driver

Job Summary Please note: The compensation structure for this role is to be determined and will be either hourly pay or mileage-based compensation. This will be finalized before the role is offered. Alopex Couriers is seeking a motivated, safety-conscious, and reliable Class 1 Driver for our Cranbrook Depot, supporting transportation and linehaul operations throughout the Kootenay region. This role is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of parcels, freight, and other shipments between warehouses, sorting facilities, and designated locations while ensuring timely arrivals and secure handling of freight. The successful candidate will report to the Operations Manager and have experience operating Class 1 commercial vehicles and tractor-trailer combinations. They will demonstrate sound defensive driving practices and understand the importance of vehicle inspections, load securement, regulatory compliance, and efficient transportation. Drivers must be prepared to operate in varying road and weather conditions, including mountainous terrain, steep grades, and challenging winter driving conditions. Responsibilities Safely operate Class 1 commercial vehicles and trailers in accordance with applicable traffic laws, transportation regulations, and company policies. Transport freight between designated warehouses, sorting facilities, and other locations according to assigned routes and schedules. Conduct required pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections and promptly report vehicle defects, damage, or maintenance concerns. Ensure freight is properly loaded, secured, and transported to prevent shifting, damage, or loss. Comply with applicable Hours of Service requirements, National Safety Code requirements, and other commercial transportation regulations. Complete required driver logs, inspection reports, shipping documentation, and electronic records accurately and on time. Use technology and software platforms, including Tundra, Grafana, Samsara, ShipTrack, or equivalent systems, to support transportation and fleet operations. Apply defensive driving techniques and adapt to changing road, traffic, and weather conditions, including winter driving and mountainous terrain. Communicate effectively with dispatch and supervisors regarding delays, route changes, road hazards, vehicle issues, and other operational concerns. Report collisions, incidents, near misses, safety hazards, and regulatory concerns in accordance with company procedures. Maintain the vehicle and equipment in a clean, safe, and roadworthy condition. Follow safe work practices when coupling and uncoupling trailers, inspecting equipment, and handling freight as required. Collaborate with dispatch, warehouse personnel, maintenance teams, and other drivers to support efficient transportation operations.
