Chief of Stuff
ABBAt ABB , we help industries run leaner and cleaner—and every person here makes that happen. You’ll be empowered to lead, supported to grow, and proud of the impact we create together. Join us and help run what runs the world. This position reports to: IS Manager __ The work model for the role is: Hybrid, Cary, NC Your role and responsibilities Our IT Business Systems organization runs the enterprise platforms behind the Electrification business area — SAP ECC, S/4HANA, Vistex, Vertex, SAP TMS and adjacent systems — across seven internal domains, for business leaders in Finance, Sales, Operations, Logistics and Procurement across our divisions. It manages a multi-million-dollar OPEX budget and a larger CAPEX portfolio, and it will be hiring continuously for at least the next two years. You are the VP of IT's chief of staff — their number two across the seven domains. You run the VP's operating rhythm, prepare them for the conversations that matter, act for them when needed, and make sure what they decide gets done. Around that, you own the four engines that keep the organization staffed and credible with the business: hiring, monthly business meetings, APT intake and the budget cycle. You will be mainly accountable for: 1.The VP's Right Hand Run the VP's operating rhythm: the weekly leadership meeting, one-to-one agendas, and a single tracker of commitments across all seven domains. Move easily between the seven domain leads and our business-unit leadership, and keep the VP — and yourself — current with what the business is thinking. Prepare the VP for the conversations that matter: what will be asked, what to decide and what not to concede. Act for the VP when they are away, and carry messages people would rather not hear — then keep the relationship. 2. Hiring and Onboarding Run the organization's hiring engine with HR's Talent Acquisition partners across multiple regions, typically with five to ten requisitions open at once. Own the candidate from offer acceptance through onboarding: keeping them warm, getting equipment and system access in place, assigning a buddy and a first-week plan. Run our intern program: two to eight interns, twice a year — from hiring through manager and project assignment to the end of their term. Hold the hiring bar when there is pressure to shortcut it, including from senior leaders. 3. Monthly Business Meetings and IT Brand Run three to six monthly meetings with our business partners across Finance, Sales, Operations, Logistics and Procurement — each shaped for its audience, not a status broadcast. Own how the business sees the IT team: track whether we keep our commitments, and change what we do when the answer is no. Prepare the VP's presentations and narratives for leadership reviews. 4. APT Intake and Cross-Domain Coordination Run the weekly APT call (our business enhancement request process). Insist that the business prioritizes its own requests clearly — and keep insisting. Coordinate across the seven domains so the backlog is sequenced, capacity is visible and commitments are realistic. Get accurate status from the domains on where every APT really stands. "80% done" for five weeks and "done" that the requester cannot see are both your problem. Tell a business leader when their request is not first, and keep the relationship afterwards. Qualifications for the role: Bachelor degree in computer science engineering or related field (MBA/masters degree preferred) Minimum 10 years of experience in enterprise business systems — SAP ECC and/or S/4HANA preferred, with exposure to Vistex, Vertex, SAP TMS, or comparable platforms. Substantial experience (5+ years) running operational governance in a matrixed environment — intake processes, business reviews, prioritization frameworks — across multiple business areas simultaneously. You have managed or co-managed a team or project budget — comfortable with varian…
