Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) / Patient Transportation Driver
medicine wheelMedicine Wheel Clinic is seeking a compassionate, dependable Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPS) to join our team and provide peer recovery support and transportation services to individuals receiving treatment for substance use disorders. This is a unique position combining peer recovery support with patient transportation. The ideal candidate understands recovery, believes strongly in treating people with dignity and respect, and is comfortable building supportive relationships with individuals at different stages of their recovery journey. It's currently a part time position with opportunities for advancement to full time based on job performance. Responsibilities Provide peer support to patients receiving treatment for substance use disorders. Complete peer support progress notes and accurately document peer-support activities and services provided. Use lived experience and recovery-oriented principles to encourage hope, engagement, self-advocacy, and progress toward patient-identified goals. Transport patients to and from the clinic using the clinic van according to an established transportation schedule. Maintain professional and appropriate boundaries with patients at all times. Help connect patients with community resources and recovery supports when appropriate. Encourage patient engagement in treatment and celebrate recovery accomplishments. Communicate relevant patient needs or concerns to appropriate members of the treatment team. Maintain required transportation documentation. Help ensure the clinic vehicle is kept clean, safe, and ready for patient transportation. Follow all clinic policies regarding confidentiality, patient safety, professional conduct, and transportation. Participate as a collaborative member of the multidisciplinary treatment team. Assist with other appropriate peer-support and clinic duties as needed. Qualifications Current Certified Peer Specialist credential required Personal lived experience relevant to peer recovery support and the ability to use that experience appropriately and professionally. Valid driver's license and safe driving history. Must be comfortable driving a passenger van and transporting patients. Must successfully complete required fingerprinted background and driving-record checks. Must not have any felonies for the last five years. Exceptions can be requested for exceptional candidates with certain charges but must be approved by DBHDD's CheckPT background check system. Must not be facing active charges or actively on probation Must meet applicable DBHDD/clinic employment and credentialing requirements.+ Must have a minimum of two years of sustained abstinence from illicit substance use Must be able to provide a compliant 14 panel drug screen that is required during initial screening and randomly at least annually thereafter. Dependable transportation and reliable attendance are essential. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriate professional boundaries. Compassionate, nonjudgmental approach toward people with substance use disorders and individuals receiving medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD). Preferred Qualifications Experience working in substance use disorder treatment, behavioral health, recovery community organizations, or peer-support programs. Experience providing transportation services. Familiarity with opioid treatment programs (OTPs), methadone and buprenorphine treatment, and/or medications for opioid use disorder. Knowledge of community recovery and social-service resources.
