About the Role: The CDL Driver (Class A) plays a critical role in the utilities industry by safely and efficiently transporting equipment, materials, and supplies necessary for utility operations across various locations within the United States. This position requires adherence to all federal, state, and company regulations to ensure the secure delivery of goods while maintaining the integrity of the cargo and the safety of the driver and the public. The driver will be responsible for operating heavy-duty vehicles, including tractor-trailers, to support utility infrastructure projects and maintenance activities. This role demands strong attention to detail, excellent time management skills, and the ability to navigate diverse routes under varying weather and traffic conditions. Ultimately, the CDL Driver ensures that utility operations continue smoothly by providing reliable transportation services that meet operational deadlines and safety standards. Minimum Qualifications: Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a clean driving record. Minimum of 2 years of experience operating Class A commercial vehicles, preferably in the utilities or related industries. Knowledge of and compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and Hours of Service (HOS) rules. Ability to pass pre-employment drug and alcohol screening and ongoing random testing as required by federal regulations. Physical ability to perform vehicle inspections, load and unload cargo, and handle equipment as necessary. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with hauling specialized utility equipment or hazardous materials endorsements (HAZMAT). Familiarity with GPS navigation systems and electronic logging devices (ELDs). Previous experience working in the utilities sector or supporting infrastructure projects. Strong mechanical aptitude for basic vehicle troubleshooting and maintenance. Excellent communication and customer service skills to interact with site personnel and supervisors. Responsibilities: Operate Class A commercial motor vehicles to transport utility equipment, materials, and supplies to designated locations safely and on schedule. Conduct pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of vehicles to ensure mechanical safety and compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. Load and unload cargo securely, verifying shipment contents and ensuring proper handling to prevent damage. Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, vehicle maintenance, and delivery records in compliance with federal and company policies. Communicate effectively with dispatchers, supervisors, and other team members to coordinate routes, report issues, and update delivery statuses. Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, safety regulations, and company policies to promote a safe working environment. Respond promptly to any emergencies or incidents during transit, following established protocols to mitigate risks. Skills: The CDL Driver utilizes their driving expertise and knowledge of safety regulations daily to operate heavy vehicles responsibly and efficiently. Their skills in vehicle inspection and maintenance ensure that equipment remains in optimal condition, reducing downtime and enhancing safety. Effective communication skills are essential for coordinating with dispatch and site teams, ensuring timely deliveries and resolving any issues encountered during transit. Familiarity with navigation technology and electronic logging devices supports route planning and compliance with regulatory requirements. Additionally, the ability to handle cargo carefully and respond to emergencies contributes to the overall success and reliability of utility operations.
