Key Responsibilities:
• Safely operate a Class A commercial motor vehicle, transporting refrigerated freight on regional and OTR routes.
• Conduct thorough pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of the tractor, trailer, and reefer unit, documenting any defects as necessary.
• Manage temperature-controlled freight by setting and monitoring reefer unit temperatures to ensure product integrity throughout transit.
• Adhere to all DOT regulations and hours-of-service rules while maintaining accurate electronic logs and required documentation.
• Plan your routes effectively, ensuring timely pick-ups and deliveries while maximizing your legal driving hours.
• Communicate regularly and professionally with dispatch, operations, and customers regarding load status, possible delays, and service issues.
• Perform basic on-road troubleshooting as needed (e.g., minor reefer adjustments, simple securement checks) and coordinate necessary repairs.
• Maintain a clean and professional vehicle, representing K&B Transportation positively to customers and the public.
• Follow company policies on fuel usage, safety, load securement, and accident reporting while participating in ongoing safety and compliance training.
Essential Skills:
• Class A commercial vehicle operation experience.
• Expertise in handling refrigerated (reefer) freight and temperature control.
• Knowledge of FMCSA and DOT safety and hours-of-service (HOS) compliance.
• Experience in using electronic logging devices (ELD) and managing logs.
• Strong trip planning and time management abilities.
• Skills in vehicle inspection and basic troubleshooting on the road.
• Proficient in defensive driving and safe driving techniques.
• Excellent customer service and professional communication with dispatch and shippers/receivers.
• Knowledge of basic cargo securement practices for refrigerated freight.
• Adept at map reading and GPS routing for regional and OTR operations.
