This physically demanding position involves unloading freight box by box using rollers. Successful drivers bring patience, strong customer service skills, and a commitment to safe, dependable deliveries. Responsibilities Safely operate Freightliner or Kenworth equipment on dedicated delivery routes. Complete store deliveries and physically unload 100% touch freight using rollers. Meet early-morning delivery appointments, arriving the night before or early morning as needed. Communicate professionally with store personnel, dispatch, and support teams. Complete assigned backhauls and maintain accurate delivery documentation. Follow company safety procedures and applicable transportation requirements. Requirements Hold a valid Class A commercial driver’s license. Be able to perform repeated physical unloading of freight. Demonstrate patience, dependability, and strong customer service skills. Be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays. Have a secure parking location for both the truck and trailer. Bring two weeks’ worth of supplies to orientation and be prepared to travel directly to Savannah, GA, for training upon hire. Schedule and Equipment Home weekly for a 34-hour reset; weekend home time is not guaranteed. Additional resets may occur during the delivery schedule. Most deliveries take place early in the morning, requiring overnight or early-morning driving. Average weekly mileage: 1,100–1,300 miles. Equipment: Freightliner and Kenworth tractors. Compensation Base mileage rate: $0.63 per mile, regardless of experience. Unloading pay: $240 per fully unloaded trailer. Backhaul pay: $50 per backhaul. Reported combined mileage and accessorial pay: approximately $1.20 per mile. Average earnings: $1,300–$1,600 weekly, or approximately $67,000–$83,000 annually. Actual earnings vary based on mileage, completed deliveries, unloading, and backhauls. Training One week of ride-along training with an experienced Dollar Tree account driver, paid at $150 per day. $2,000 Sign-On Bonus $500 after the first load. $500 after 30 days. $1,000 after 60 days. Drivers must be active company drivers on each payout date. U.S. Xpress reserves the right to modify or cancel the bonus with appropriate notice under applicable law. The bonus does not change the at-will nature of employment. Support and Paid Vacation On-site support staff available 24/7. One week of paid vacation after one year of service.
