The Category Manager leads the development and execution of sourcing and vendor management strategies for the North American fleet portfolio. This role focuses on optimizing total cost of ownership (TCO), improving asset reliability, and mitigating supply and capacity risks across transportation and delivery networks. Success requires strong use of industry insights, financial and market data, and category expertise to drive disciplined cost management, contract lifecycle oversight, compliance, and continuous improvement.
What you’ll do:
Develop and execute multi-year category strategies aligned to cost savings, compliance, continuous improvement, safety, uptime, sustainability and growth objectives.
Lead competitive sourcing, contract negotiations supplier selection and performance management.
Partner with Operations, Logistics, Safety, and Finance to balance cost, service, and risk
Establish TCO models including acquisition, lease Vs buy, maintenance, fuel, compliance, resale value and fleet lifecycle mapping.
Manage vendor rationalization and approved/ preferred suppliers and compliance programs.
Identify opportunities for consolidation, standardization, and process improvement.
Analyze spend data, track savings, report on category performance, and identify areas for efficiency.
Lead freight market intelligence, rate benchmarking, and negotiation strategies.
Ensure contracts support regulatory, safety, and environmental requirements.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
What you bring:
Post-secondary education in a relevant field; SCMP, CSCP, CIPS, or equivalent designation preferred.
8-10+ years of strategic sourcing or category management experience
Strong background in capital equipment, MRO, or industrial services
Experience in energy, utilities, construction, or asset-intensive industries preferred
Experience in inventory management and optimization models
Strong analytical, negotiation, and supplier governance skills
Experience using Workday or similar ERP systems
Experience centralizing and managing North America wide multi location spends
Advanced internal and external stakeholder management and executive communication skills
Salary: $97,700 - $122,100 annually (based on skills, experience, qualifications, and geography).
