Category Manager (eCommerce)

BIS Safety Software
Full-time
On-site
Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada
BIS Safety Software is a SaaS company on a mission to change how organizations manage safety, learning, and compliance. We're looking for a hands-on Category Manager to lead our online course business - a high-impact product line ready for its next phase of growth.

About the Role

This is a $13M online course portfolio — and we’re looking for a commercially driven leader with an entrepreneurial mindset to own and grow it. You’ll decide what we sell, how we price it, how we position it, and where we invest to grow. You’ll lead the strategy and execute the plan.

You will have full P&L accountability for this business line, including revenue growth, gross margin expansion, portfolio mix strategy, and eCommerce performance. This is not a coordination position — it is a true ownership role.

If you're entrepreneurial, analytical, and motivated by measurable commercial impact, we want to hear from you.

This is an in-person role based out of our Sherwood Park, AB office.

In this role, you'll be accountable for:

    • Growing catalog revenue and margin
    • Owning the catalogue - pricing, positioning, and curation
    • Growing internally owned course share
    • Driving eCommerce performance
    • Expanding into new markets
    • Executing and reporting on growth plans

Specific duties will include:

    • Own the $13M P&L for the online course portfolio, including revenue growth, margin performance, and strategic planning.
    • Own the full safety course catalogue - pricing, positioning, and curation - while growing the share of internally owned courses, managing cannibalization risk, and optimizing revenue and margin.
    • Experiment with course names, pricing, descriptions, and formats while optimizing the purchasing journey, including bundle strategy, upsell/cross-sell logic, packaging, and checkout conversion performance.
    • Dig into the data to understand where sales are coming from - channels, segments, geographies, courses - and define and track KPIs beyond revenue, including conversion rate, margin by product, attach rates, and customer behavior trends.
    • Lead market-specific positioning strategies, including U.S. market optimization and geographic expansion opportunities, supported by ongoing competitive analysis of catalogues, pricing, and emerging compliance trends.
    • Partner with the course development team to prioritize internally developed courses, build ROI-driven business cases for new course creation, and guide the roadmap toward the highest-value opportunities.
    • Manage vendor relationships and coordinate across departments - sales, marketing, product, and support - to align priorities and maintain clear commercial accountability.
    • Build and execute annual and quarterly growth plans with defined revenue and margin targets, and report clearly on results and next steps.

You might be the right fit if you:

    • Have owned a product line, portfolio, or eCommerce business line with measurable P&L responsibility.
    • Have directly managed revenue targets and margin performance - not just traffic or top-line sales.
    • Are comfortable making pricing and portfolio tradeoff decisions that impact revenue mix and profitability.
    • Can pull apart complex data to find the signal in the noise - and translate it into commercial action.
    • Understand eCommerce deeply - conversion funnels, pricing architecture, bundling strategy, SEO, buyer psychology, and promotional levers.
    • Think strategically about portfolio design - build vs. partner decisions, margin contribution, and long-term IP value.
    • Can evaluate new market opportunities, including U.S. expansion, and adapt positioning accordingly.
    • Have a bias toward action - you test, learn, and refine quickly.
    • Communicate clearly - you turn data into decisions and decisions into measurable outcomes.

Bonus points if you have:

    • Owned and optimized an eCommerce platform with measurable revenue results
    • Experience in the health and safety or compliance training industry
    • Led or played a key role in a U.S. market expansion
    • Built and scaled a digital content or course catalogue

Compensation and benefits:

    • Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP)
    • Full medical, dental, and vision coverage
    • Life insurance and disability insurance
    • Health spending account
    • Flexible working hours
    • On-the-job training and growth opportunities
    • Free on-site parking
$110,000 - $130,000 a year
Salary ranges are based on experience, reflecting the unique skillset each individual brings to the role.
