Position Overview: We are seeking a dependable, safety-focused Cargo Handling Technician to support the accurate movement and preparation of freight within our warehouse and loading operations. In this hands-on role, you will receive and inspect cargo, move shipments to designated locations, prepare freight for dispatch, and assist with loading and unloading. You will follow approved handling instructions and load plans while maintaining accurate records and communicating concerns to the warehouse and dispatch teams. This position focuses on cargo handling and shipment preparation, not vehicle repair or commercial driving. Key Responsibilities: Receive incoming freight and verify shipment labels, quantities, and identifying information against receiving documents. Inspect cargo, pallets, and packaging for visible damage, instability, or missing identification. Report discrepancies promptly and follow instructions for holding affected freight pending review. Load and unload trucks and trailers according to approved procedures and assigned responsibilities. Move cargo between receiving, storage, cross-dock, and outbound staging areas. Sort and consolidate LTL shipments while maintaining clear identification and separation between consignments. Follow approved load plans for cargo placement, weight distribution, stacking, and unloading sequence. Assist with palletizing, wrapping, labeling, and applying approved protective materials. Use cargo securement equipment only within the scope of assigned training and authorization. Record freight movements, counts, locations, and handling exceptions using the company’s designated paperwork or tracking system. Follow documented storage and handling requirements for fragile, temperature-sensitive, or otherwise specialized cargo. Coordinate with warehouse personnel, drivers, and dispatch staff to confirm shipment readiness and report delays. Perform pre-use checks on assigned handling equipment and report defects rather than attempting unauthorized repairs. Maintain clean, organized loading and staging areas, keeping walkways and emergency access routes clear. Stop work and notify a supervisor when cargo condition, equipment, or instructions present a safety concern. Required Qualifications: Strong attention to detail when checking freight, labels, and shipment records. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, handling symbols, and safety procedures. Basic counting, measurement, and recordkeeping skills. Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a team. Dependability, punctuality, and a careful approach to freight handling. Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation. Pay: $20.00 - $23.00 per hour Benefits: 401(k) Dental insurance Health insurance Paid time off Vision insurance Work Location: In person
