Bay View IndustriesPOSITION SUMMARY Bay View Industries is seeking an experienced and results-driven Senior Buyer to play a key role in supporting our manufacturing operations through strategic purchasing, supplier relationship management, and cost optimization. The Senior Buyer is responsible for sourcing and procuring raw materials, components, equipment, and services necessary to support efficient and uninterrupted production. This position takes a proactive approach to managing supplier performance, negotiating favorable purchasing terms, identifying cost-saving opportunities, and ensuring materials are available to meet production schedules and customer commitments. The ideal candidate is a strong negotiator, analytical problem-solver, and collaborative team member who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This individual will serve as a key resource within the Purchasing Department, helping drive continuous improvement, operational efficiency, and long-term supplier partnerships. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Strategic Purchasing & Procurement Lead purchasing activities for assigned commodities, raw materials, components, and services to support manufacturing requirements. Develop and execute purchasing strategies that balance cost, quality, availability, and supplier reliability. Analyze purchasing trends, market conditions, and supplier capabilities to identify opportunities for cost reduction and process improvement. Negotiate pricing, payment terms, lead times, and purchasing agreements to achieve favorable business outcomes. Identify opportunities to consolidate suppliers, leverage purchasing volume, and improve overall procurement efficiency. Evaluate alternative materials and sourcing opportunities in collaboration with Engineering, Quality, and Production. Support capital equipment purchases and other strategic procurement initiatives as needed. Supplier Relationship Management Develop and maintain strong, professional relationships with existing and prospective suppliers. Evaluate supplier performance based on quality, cost, delivery, responsiveness, and overall service. Proactively address supplier-related issues, including material shortages, delivery delays, pricing discrepancies, and quality concerns. Identify, evaluate, and qualify new suppliers to strengthen supply chain reliability and reduce sourcing risks. Collaborate with suppliers to establish mutually beneficial partnerships and continuous improvement opportunities. Participate in supplier reviews, negotiations, and performance improvement initiatives. Inventory & Production Support Partner closely with Production, Scheduling, Engineering, and Inventory Control to ensure materials are available to support manufacturing schedules. Monitor material requirements, inventory levels, and purchasing activity to minimize shortages and production disruptions. Analyze inventory trends and recommend strategies to reduce excess inventory, improve inventory turns, and optimize working capital. Expedite critical materials and coordinate alternative sourcing solutions when necessary. Maintain accurate purchasing records, supplier information, pricing, and lead times within the company's ERP system. Collaborate with internal teams to resolve material availability challenges and support on-time customer delivery. Cost Management & Continuous Improvement Identify and implement measurable cost-saving and cost-avoidance initiatives without compromising quality or operational requirements. Analyze supplier quotations, purchasing data, and total cost of ownership to support informed purchasing decisions. Develop and monitor purchasing performance metrics, including cost savings, supplier on-time delivery, purchase price variance, and inventory performance. Recommend improvements to purchasing procedures, workflows, and systems to increase efficiency and accuracy. Support budgeting, forecasting, and purchasing-related financial analysis.
