Buyer/Planner - Materials & Custom Order Lead
Denver ModernAbout Denver Modern Denver Modern is a fast-growing modern furniture brand founded by a husband-and-wife team, with a Denver-inspired design point of view: modern, simple, timeless, and comfortable. We build solid-wood, real-upholstery, contract-grade pieces designed to age beautifully over decades — proudly anti-fast-furniture. We sell direct-to-consumer nationally and serve hospitality, workplace, and trade customers through a growing contract program. We design in Denver, manufacture with trusted partners in Vietnam, and operate a showroom, corporate office, and warehouse at our Northfield campus. The business is scaling from roughly $25M toward $50M+ across DTC, B2B/Trade, and Contract channels, and we are building the team to match. Position summary Denver Modern sources leather and fabrics for its main factory partners, so materials availability, cost, and timing directly affect production. The Materials & Custom Orders Lead owns materials end to end, from partnering with Lindsey on materials planning and purchasing strategy through vendor management, buying, logistics, and receipt and usage in production. The role owns raw materials in Luminous and coordinates with Finance on material invoices and payments. The role also owns the custom-order process. A more robust Made to Order (MTO) offering is an opportunity for sizable revenue growth, particularly in our B2B channel, and this role partners with Sales and Product Development to operationalize it for scale. Core responsibilities Materials planning, vendors, and buying Partner with Lindsey on materials planning and purchasing strategy: sourcing options, order quantities, timing, supplier minimums, consolidation, and contingency plans. Reconcile on-hand and committed materials against production needs; flag shortages, excess, and dependencies early. Own materials vendor relationships, pricing, and lead times; compare quotes, confirm terms, and negotiate within delegated authority. Create, place, and manage materials POs in Luminous, including revisions, confirmations, and open balances. Materials logistics and inventory Coordinate and track materials shipments from vendors to factory partners in Flexport; resolve exceptions and escalate unresolved risks to Flynn with a recommendation. Own materials SKU setup and accuracy in Luminous. Track materials receipts at each factory and usage in production, and reconcile materials inventory by factory. Validate the output of the planned AI agent for materials planning, ordering, tracking, receipt, and usage, and resolve exceptions. Coordinate with Finance on material invoices and payments, matching invoices to POs and receipts. Custom orders Partner with Sales and Product Development to operationalize a more robust MTO offering for scale, including the custom-order purchasing strategy: sourcing options, order quantities, timing, supplier minimums, consolidation, and contingency plans. Own custom orders from intake through delivery: clarify requirements, obtain KP’s product-feasibility decision, place orders with suppliers in Luminous, and follow up on logistics in Flexport. Build custom-order costs and pricing proposals using approved pricing and margin rules; seek approval for exceptions. Manage changes to scope, materials, quantities, cost, or timing with version control and approvals, and keep all affected owners informed. Systems, AI, and documentation Use Luminous, Flexport, and Perplexity, verifying AI output against specifications, quotes, and system records.
