Buyer/Planner

About the Role Nucentra Solutions is seeking a Buyer / Planner to purchase the materials, components and services our Dallas facility consumes, and to plan those purchases against the production schedule so the right material is on the floor when the build needs it. The role sits in Supply Chain and works daily with Production, Engineering, Logistics, Inventory and Finance. It buys everything from electrical components, cable and fasteners to fabrication consumables and outsourced services such as piping, rigging and specialty electrical work. We are looking for someone with purchasing experience in the products and services used in fabrication, electrical and power generation work, who can also plan requirements, not only place orders. What You Will Own Purchasing ● Source, quote, negotiate and place purchase orders for materials, components, consumables and outsourced services, within the approved DOA. ● Develop and maintain a qualified supplier base across electrical, mechanical, fabrication and service categories. ● Track supplier performance on delivery, quality and price, and act on it. ● Resolve invoice, receipt and quality discrepancies with suppliers, Inventory and Finance. Material Planning ● Translate the production schedule and engineering BOMs into material requirements and purchase timing. ● Coordinate inbound shipments from overseas manufacturing with Logistics so components arrive in build sequence. ● Set and maintain min/max and reorder levels for consumables and common parts with the Inventory team. ● Expedite shortages and give Production and Project Management early warning of anything that will not arrive in time. Cost and Process ● Pursue cost reductions through consolidation, negotiation and alternatives, and report the savings. ● Maintain accurate item, supplier and pricing data in the business system. ● Help build the purchasing procedures, approval flows and supplier agreements the business needs as it grows. What We Are Looking For ● 5+ years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing, fabrication or industrial services environment. ● Experience buying electrical components, cable, panel and switchgear parts, fabrication materials and consumables, and contracted services for power generation or industrial equipment. ● Planning experience: converting schedules and BOMs into requirements and purchase timing. ● Strong negotiation and supplier management skills. ● Working knowledge of MRP or ERP purchasing and inventory modules, and strong Excel. ● Able to read BOMs and basic drawings and ask Engineering the right questions. ● Organized and persistent, with the discipline to keep PO, pricing and supplier records accurate. ● APICS CPIM or ISM CPSM is helpful but not required. The Person Who Will Succeed in This Role You know the difference between a purchase order and a plan. You look ahead at what the floor will need in six weeks and you buy for it now. When a supplier slips, Production hears it from you before they find out at the workstation. You negotiate well, keep clean records, and treat every supplier relationship as something the company will need again. What Success Looks Like Success in this role means: ● Material shortages rarely stop a line, and never without warning. ● Supplier on-time delivery and quality are measured and improving. ● Purchase cost comes down year over year on repeat categories. ● Inventory of consumables and common parts is right-sized, not excessive. ● PO, pricing and supplier records are accurate and auditable. Performance is measured against agreed targets for material availability, supplier on-time delivery, cost savings, inventory levels and data accuracy, set with leadership and reviewed monthly.
