We are seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Plant Buyer to join our landscaping team. The Plant Buyer is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and coordinating the delivery of high-quality plant material for residential and commercial landscape projects. This role requires a strong understanding of plant varieties, seasonal availability, vendor relationships, and logistics to ensure timely and cost-effective procurement. Key Responsibilities: Source and purchase trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals, and other plant materials based on project specifications, budgets, and timelines. Build and maintain strong relationships with nurseries, growers, and suppliers to ensure quality and competitive pricing. Monitor plant availability, seasonality, and market trends to anticipate and fulfill project needs. Inspect incoming plant material for quality, size, and health, and ensure it meets project and company standards. Coordinate with landscape designers, project managers, and site supervisors to confirm plant lists and delivery schedules. Negotiate pricing, payment terms, and delivery logistics with vendors. Track orders, manage inventory, and resolve any delivery discrepancies or quality issues. Maintain accurate records of purchases, invoices, and supplier contacts. Support sustainability and local sourcing initiatives where possible. Stay up to date on plant care requirements, pest/disease trends, and climate considerations relevant to project regions. Qualifications: Proven experience in plant buying, horticulture, landscaping, or a related field. Strong knowledge of plant materials, Latin names, and growing conditions. Excellent negotiation, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple orders and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with inventory or procurement software is a plus. Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to local nurseries and project sites as needed. Degree or certification in Horticulture, Landscape Design, or a related field is preferred but not required. A proactive approach to problem-solving and decision-making within a fast-paced environment.
