We are currently hiring a Buyer to join the team at our Goderich Mine facility in Goderich, ON. This is not a fly in/fly out position as you are required to relocate. Compass Minerals’ Goderich Salt Mine, located 1,800 feet under Lake Huron, is the largest underground salt mine in the world. The mine is as deep as the CN Tower in Toronto is tall. The rock salt produced at the mine is used to keep citizens in North America safe as they travel through winter snow and ice. The salt is shipped to hundreds of communities around the Great Lakes and along the St. Lawrence Seaway. Some of the salt is trucked to the Compass Minerals plant less than 4 kilometers away, to be packaged for distribution and sale at retailers in North America. The salt is also sold in bulk to manufacturers that make plastics, detergents, disinfectants and other important products. Goderich is named Canada’s Prettiest Town and is best known for its stunning sunsets. Goderich is a lakeside community of 8,000 people located approximately 1.5 hours from London and Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario. How will you contribute to the team? To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following: Purchase of non-stock and project materials by executing sourcing strategies, negotiating terms and developing contracts. Ensure compliance with corporate supply contracts for MRO purchases and enter pricing to allow automated/simple release of inventory items. Resolve invoice discrepancies in collaboration with accounting teams and ensure accurate cost reporting. Analyze consumable stock inventory levels and purchase replacement items as required. Adjust inventory minimum/maximum levels to reflect usage and manage inventory processes in accordance with purchasing best practices and production requirements. Identify suppliers and assess performance, develop alternative sources and evaluate pricing and delivery terms as needed. Collaborate with customs brokers to ensure complete and accurate cross-border shipments. Create, track and manage purchase orders, ensuring timely follow-up and resolution of discrepancies. Identify, analyze and implement cost savings opportunities in alignment with business objectives. Partner with internal teams and external suppliers to maintain positive working relationships and ensure effective customer service. Support maintenance and operations teams by preparing contracts and procuring materials, equipment and services for maintenance activities. Participate in career enhancement programs to develop and enhance professional purchasing competencies. Support critical operations, supplier issues and project activities during assigned on-call periods. Perform other related duties as required. What should you bring to the role? Post-secondary diploma in Business, Supply Chain or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 2-5 years of purchasing experience with an emphasis on sourcing, purchasing, contract development and negotiation.
