Daylight FoodsSUMMARY / OBJECTIVE: The Buyer position will be responsible for the purchasing and procurement of perishable agricultural commodities within an assigned group of categories or commodities. This role will function as the point of contact for producers in their commodity group, and will work in collaboration with inventory, receiving, quality assurance and transportation teams to ensure the right products and quantities are procured at the right prices. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: · Collaborate with suppliers to procure products within assigned categories or commodities at competitive costs and maintain optimal inventory levels · Lead RFQ process and take into account supply agreements and market pricing and conditions · Monitor market pricing and optimize purchase costs to ensure competitive costs for customers and help grow sales · Build strong and collaborative relationships with producers in assigned categories and commodities · Audit and reconcile purchase order accuracy and gross margin issues · Resolve billing disputes and product quality and quantity claims with suppliers, providing timely and thorough feedback to growers regarding product quality · Dispatch freight carriers and plan orders for inbound freight to optimize for cost and delivery timeliness · Minimize inventory spoilage through partnering with Operations teams · Ensure all inbound produce meets standards for quality, condition, and grade in collaboration with Receiving team · Communicate out-of-stock positions and other product and market updates to internal stakeholders · Work with the Sales team to align sourcing with customer specifications and expectations · Provide short-term forecasts to producer partners for upcoming needs · Participate in demand planning process to ensure customer order fulfillment and minimize waste · Work with Senior Managers on promotional and pricing strategies for assigned categories · Establish and maintains a reputation of credibility and responsiveness; ensuring prompt communication and timely follow-up on issues KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ATTRIBUTES: · Knowledge of local and regional produce varieties, growing practices, quality standards, and seasonality · Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills · Proficiency in Google and MS Office suite software (i.e., spreadsheets, presentation, and word processing software) · Thrives in a fast-paced, evolving environment · Open concept office environment with flexibility to work extended hours and on weekends. Buyers can work remotely in the Nation. Buyers who are from the Bay Area need to work on site. · Some job duties will be performed in a warehouse setting EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree or equivalent equivalent experience in purchasing, inventory, or supply chain management 2 + years of relevant work experience, either on farms or in produce retail/distribution PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: An employee must meet the physical demands described here to perform the essential functions of this job successfully.
