DescriptionThe Procurement/Buyer will be responsible for all aspects of activities related to the procurement of goods and services for Metrolinx’s Legacy Fleet Maintenance operations.
This individual will collaborate with the management team, customers, suppliers, partners and involved stakeholders.
Reporting to the Procurement Manager will be accountable for the planning and implementation activities relating to the purchasing of products and services. Follow up on all awards through completion of orders. Negotiates with suppliers and determine factors that affect prices and to determine lowest cost consistent with product availability, quality, reliability, and ability to meet schedule.
ResponsibilitiesCore Accountabilities:
- Confirm compliance with all HSE policies, processes and procedures
- Manage the relationship with suppliers
- Manage the entire purchasing order flow. Order parts and arrange for services as it relates to the needs of the business
- Solve quality issues and ensure material availability
- Work to renew supplier approvals and find new suppliers.
- Measure supplier performance
- Work to achieve operational targets
- Review proposals, negotiate prices, select and recommend suppliers, analyze trends and maintain records/documents
- Prepare Request for Proposal and bid packages
- Negotiate and settle with suppliers regarding damage claims, rejections, losses, return of materials, over-shipments, cancellations and various changes
- Develop KPI’s and present data
- Prepare senior management relating to any potential complications
- Work with the team to prepare and create recurrent reports that are requested by operations or higher
- Comply with the Company’s applicable policies and procedures as well as Human Resources’ guidelines.
QualificationsQualifications:
- Ability to build strong rapport with the team and unionized maintenance personnel
- 3 to 5 years Purchasing experience in a Buyer role. Experience in procurement, contract management and supplier management
- Proven negotiation and influencing skills with suppliers
- Experience when dealing with headquarters as this individual will be accountable for results and overall performance produced
- Diploma or Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or related field.
Nice to have:
- Experience working in an unionized environment
- Familiarity with related industries such as Aerospace
- Previous experience working in the passenger/rail transit industry is an asset
