The Buyer is a key member of the EDCO Products Materials team. This full-time, exempt position is based in Hopkins, MN, and reports to the Materials Supervisor. This is a position with normal working hours of 7:30am-4:00 pm, Monday – Friday. This individual is responsible for all purchasing needs of the Hopkins location; including metals, packaging, MRO and buy/resell.

  • Execute the proactive plan for and purchase of goods and materials in line with specified cost, quality, and delivery targets.
  • Support purchasing function through communicating supply problems that may impact business operations
  • Act as a proactive liaison between suppliers and related departments on purchasing process and new projects.
  • Support contract negotiations
  • Prepare purchase orders and order schedules
  • Build and maintain effective supplier relationships
  • Conduct research for new inventory items and review of existing and possible new suppliers
  • Monitor and advise on any issues related to risk or opportunity to the organization and provide recommended resolutions to ensure no business disruptions.
  • Provide detailed analysis on costs for new and existing products.
  • Prepare complex reports and updates as required
  • Assess and evaluate suppliers and contribute to performance reviews to ensure strong relationship compliance
  • Contact suppliers to resolve price, quality, delivery, and invoice issues
  • Ensure that a professional and consistent approach is applied to all internal and external (vendor/supplier) relationships.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of strategic purchasing/planning concepts, practices, processes required
  • Solid business acumen, product knowledge, and understanding of the building materials industry
  • Able to foster productive, professional, and collaborative relationships with internal employees, suppliers, and other stakeholders. Strong customer service, negotiation, and influencing skills are required.
  • Effective in time management, task prioritization, and ability to consistently achieve set targets.
  • Able to effectively work under pressure and handle time sensitive situations
  • Exhibits good judgment, ability to make decisions, excellent interpersonal/communication skills, strong comprehension skills, high levels of detail/organization, and accuracy in work and communications.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in business, management, supply chain, or related discipline. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will also be considered.
  • Intermediate to advanced experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and similar) required.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working closely with suppliers and/or customers in the building materials industry.
  • Experience in the purchasing and negotiation process desired
  • Analytical abilities with demonstrated ability to solve complex problems independently.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience using an ERP system, Netsuite experience preferred

Working Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and use hands to handle objects, tools or controls and sit; talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. Close vision and ability to adjust focus are necessary. The noise level in the work environment varies from a quiet office to moderately loud distribution/manufacturing areas with exposure to some chemicals, fumes, and moving machinery.
