Buyer Michigan Center, MI Full-Time | Exempt (Salary) | In-Office, Minimal Travel (<10%) $60,000–$65,000 Base Salary (DOE) About the Opportunity We're partnering with a Michigan-based leader in machinery installation and vibration isolation solutions to find their next Buyer. Our client supports manufacturing and equipment installation projects for customers in the U.S. and around the world. It's a close-knit team with direct access to leadership and a lot of room to grow. They're looking for a Buyer who wants to own the purchasing process, learn international shipping, and build a long-term career with the company. The Role Our client is looking for a Buyer to manage the full purchasing cycle, from sourcing vendors and issuing purchase orders through inbound receiving. The Buyer will also help with freight, export packaging, and international shipping for both domestic and global customer shipments. This role works closely with Engineering during quoting, so the ability to read drawings and turn them into accurate material and shipping requirements is important. Training and mentorship are available on the more complex export and compliance work. You'll report to the Supply Chain Manager and work cross-functionally with Production, Engineering, Sales, Quality, Accounting, and leadership. Responsibilities Source, evaluate, and select suppliers for raw materials, components, MRO, and outside services Prepare, issue, and manage purchase orders in Sage 300, including tracking order status and confirming pricing and lead times Monitor open orders and expedite past-due purchases to prevent production or installation delays Negotiate pricing, payment terms, and delivery schedules with suppliers Maintain accurate vendor records, item costing, and lead-time data in the ERP system Support inventory planning by monitoring stock levels and reorder points Track supplier performance and recommend alternate sources to reduce risk and control costs Gather and compare freight quotes for inbound and outbound shipments, and help select carriers Coordinate outbound shipments with production, shipping/receiving, and customers Build relationships with freight brokers, carriers, and 3PL providers Help determine export packaging requirements, such as crating, ISPM-15 compliant wood, and moisture and vibration protection Help prepare export documentation, including commercial invoices, packing lists, and certificates of origin Apply Incoterms (EXW, FOB, DAP, DDP) to quotes, purchase orders, and shipments Coordinate with freight forwarders and customs brokers on international shipments, and support export compliance Read engineering drawings and specifications, and turn them into accurate supplier RFQs and purchase requirements Partner with Engineering and Sales during quoting so freight, duties, packaging, and lead times are priced correctly Support month-end reporting on freight costs, vendor performance, and open orders What Our Client Is Looking For Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or a related field. Equivalent manufacturing experience will be considered 3+ years of purchasing, procurement, or supply chain experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or equipment installation environment preferred Working knowledge of Incoterms required Experience with export packaging, international shipping, and freight coordination strongly preferred ERP experience required. Sage 300 experience strongly preferred Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and prints Strong negotiation skills with suppliers and carriers Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and lookups, and Microsoft Office Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple orders, shipments, and deadlines at once Excellent communication skills and comfort working across departments Detail-oriented, analytical, and a strong problem-solver A self-motivated, high-energy learner who wants to grow their knowledge of logistics and export c…
