The Buyer is responsible for executing day-to-day purchasing activities in support of manufacturing operations. This role focuses on placing and managing purchase orders, coordinating with suppliers, and supporting production schedules using established procurement processes and approved supplier relationships. Specifically with raw materials.
This is a hands-on, individual contributor role and does not include people management, strategic sourcing ownership, or procurement leadership responsibilities.
PERFORMANCE ACCOUNTABILITY:
- Reports to the Procurement Manager or Senior Buyer
- Works closely with Production, Engineering, Planning, and Quality to support material availability and on-time delivery
- Maintains confidentiality of company, supplier, and pricing information
- Manages multiple purchase orders and priorities in a deadline-driven manufacturing environment
- Occasional overtime or schedule flexibility may be required to support production needs
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Execute purchase orders for a mixed range of production materials, components, and supplies based on defined requirements with a heavy focus on raw materials
- manage open purchase orders and follow up with suppliers to support required delivery dates
- Obtain pricing, lead times, and availability from approved suppliers; supports RFQs as needed
- Coordinate with production control regarding material status, shortages, and schedule changes
- Maintain accurate purchasing data in the ERP system including pricing, lead times, supplier information, and order status
- Assist in resolving receiving discrepancies, shortages, and non-conforming material in coordination with Quality and Procurement leadership
- Communicate order status updates internally and escalate issues when appropriate
- Support supplier performance tracking and documentation
- Follow established purchasing policies, procedures, and controls
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS:
• 1 to 3 years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing or production environment
• Experience purchasing components, materials, or assemblies used in manufacturing
• Familiarity with ERP systems; JobBOSS experience preferred
• Working knowledge of purchasing processes and material flow
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office with emphasis on Excel and Outlook
• Experience working in an ISO-9001 environment preferred
