Buyer

Position Summary The Buyer is responsible for purchasing materials, components, and services required to support manufacturing and customer demand. The position executes purchasing activities based on MRP requirements, production plans, inventory targets, and supplier lead times while ensuring materials are available when needed. The Buyer works closely with Planning, Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, R&D, and suppliers to maintain continuity of supply, resolve material shortages, manage purchase orders, and support inventory and customer-service objectives. The Buyer is expected to proactively identify potential supply issues and take appropriate actions or escalate risks before they impact production or customers. Key Responsibilities Purchasing & Purchase Order Management Review MRP requirements and convert approved demand into purchase orders. Create, maintain, and manage purchase orders within the ERP/MRP system. Ensure purchase quantities and delivery dates align with production requirements and inventory targets. Obtain and maintain supplier order confirmations. Expedite, defer, cancel, or reschedule purchase orders based on changes in demand and production requirements. Monitor open purchase orders and resolve pastdue or unconfirmed deliveries. Maintain accurate purchasing data including pricing, lead times, minimum order quantities, and supplier information. Material Availability Monitor material requirements and proactively identify potential shortages. Work with suppliers to resolve delivery issues before they impact production. Expedite critical materials when required. Coordinate material priorities with Planning and Manufacturing. Communicate material shortages, delivery risks, and recovery dates to appropriate stakeholders. Support the Supply Chain team's objective of minimizing and ultimately eliminating supplier-related backorders. Supplier Management Serve as the primary daytoday contact for assigned suppliers. Monitor supplier delivery performance and responsiveness. Follow up on late purchase orders, missing confirmations, and delivery discrepancies. Coordinate supplier corrective actions with the Senior Buyer, Quality, and other appropriate functions. Maintain professional working relationships with suppliers. Escalate recurring supplier performance issues to the Senior Buyer or Supply Chain Manager. Inventory Management Purchase materials in alignment with approved inventory policies and planning parameters. Help maintain appropriate inventory levels while avoiding unnecessary excess. Review slowmoving, excess, and obsolete materials with Planning and Supply Chain. Support initiatives to reduce inventory without compromising customer service or production continuity. Identify purchasing conditions such as high MOQs or long lead times that may create excess inventory risk. Cost Management Ensure purchase orders reflect approved pricing and commercial terms. Review and resolve purchaseprice discrepancies. Track supplier price changes and communicate significant changes to management. Identify routine costsaving and costavoidance opportunities. Support Senior Buyer/Supply Chain leadership with supplier quotations, pricing comparisons, and negotiation preparation. Support annual budgeting and standardcost activities as required. Quality & Supplier Coordination Partner with Quality on supplierrelated quality issues affecting material availability. Coordinate replacement material or revised delivery schedules when supplier quality issues occur. Support supplier changecontrol and material qualification activities. Ensure purchasing activities are performed in accordance with applicable company procedures and qualitysystem requirements. Support Engineering and R&D with purchasing activities for new products, material changes, samples, and qualification requirements.
