Business Development Manager, Freight Forwarding Air & Ocean | $130,000 - $150,000 Base + Uncapped Commission ABOUT Our client is a Dutch-founded freight forwarder, established in Rotterdam in 1994 and now running 52 owned offices across 38 countries. The core product is air and ocean, built on transpacific and transatlantic lanes the company controls through its own gateways rather than renting from partners. The US business opened in 2011 and operates seven stations. The network is profitable and the US ops floors are settled. What the US business has not yet built is a national sales bench to match its capacity, and that is a deliberate choice arriving on schedule rather than a gap being patched. The company spent its first US decade building product it could stand behind. It is now hiring the people to sell it. This seat is remote, based anywhere in the US near a major freight market, with 30 to 40 percent travel. The remit is national and the vertical is open: the company wants your relationships, wherever they sit. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES You will hunt new forwarding business nationally across air and ocean, in whichever verticals your relationships live. You will run the full sales cycle: prospect, qualify, price with the gateway desks, close, and hand over to operations with a proper SOP rather than a forwarded email chain. You will deliver new business GP against target and keep an honest pipeline in the CRM. You will sell the lanes the company owns: transpacific and transatlantic air and ocean, FCL, LCL and consol products. You will run joint sales with overseas offices on cross-trade and routed business, and chase the nominations behind it. You will respond to RFQs and mini-bids and pick your spot opportunities when the market moves. You will stay across GRIs, PSS season and capacity swings so your quotes hold and your clients hear it from you first. You will represent the company at TPM and the regional forwarding events where freight actually changes hands. WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR You have at least five years selling freight forwarding across air and ocean, and you can evidence your GP production in the first conversation. You hold relationships you can reactivate, and you know which of them will move for a stronger product. You carry real product depth: you can talk consols, FCL versus LCL economics, and what a mid-quarter GRI does to a live quote. You run yourself. Remote means the pipeline speaks for you, and you are comfortable with that. You keep CRM discipline without being chased for it. You sit near a major US freight market with an airport that gets you to clients in a morning. WHAT'S ON OFFER Base salary of $130,000 to $150,000 plus uncapped, tiered commission on GP. The base is set where most forwarders put their OTE. Car allowance and full benefits: medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with company match, and PTO. A remote seat backed by owned gateways, so what you sell is what gets delivered. A national remit with no territory carve-outs to argue over. First hires into a build-out get the pick of the accounts. That window is open now.
