Business Central Essentials – Initial Setup, Item Import & Opening Balances for 1/1/2027 Go-Live
UpworkWe have Dynamics 365 Business Central Essentials (5 users) and need an experienced BC functional consultant to configure a working company so my team can run full sales and purchasing cycles without posting errors. Target go-live: January 1, 2027.
We’re a US manufacturer and wholesaler of crinkle paper and void fill. We’ll provide our chart of accounts, an item master file and opening balances. M
...
y team will create customer and vendor records. We sell wholesale only, so no sales tax setup is needed.
Scope:
Chart of Accounts: import from our existing COA file (accrual basis)
Posting setup: all posting groups and the posting setup matrix (General Business/Product, Customer, Vendor, Inventory by location, Bank)
Module setups: G/L, Sales & Receivables, Purchases & Payables, Inventory, number series, payment terms, units of measure, locations, shipping methods, 2027 accounting periods
Costing: FIFO on all items, with automatic cost posting and the Adjust Cost job configured
Templates: customer, vendor and item templates so new records default correctly
Bulk item import: load our item master file (raw materials and finished goods) using configuration packages or Excel, with correct posting groups, units of measure and FIFO costing
Conversion process setup (important — please read):
We don’t use production or assembly orders today. To convert, we negative-adjust raw material paper rolls out and positive-adjust finished goods in through the item journal, entering the finished-good unit cost so the value carries over from the paper consumed.
When a roll is used up, we adjust out any remaining quantity so raw material inventory matches what’s on the floor.
We need this mapped so both adjustments run through the Inventory Adjustment account and net correctly, and COGS posts properly when the finished goods are sold and invoiced.
Set up a dedicated item journal batch and reason codes (e.g., conversion consumption, conversion output, roll write-off) so these entries are easy to identify and reconcile.
Assembly readiness (for later): we plan to move to Assembly Orders after go-live. Please set up the posting accounts assembly will need now, so switching later only means adding BOMs and changing each item’s replenishment setting. Build one sample Assembly BOM and walk us through the process.
Opening balances as of 12/31/2026: trial balance, open A/R and A/P by invoice, and inventory quantities at FIFO cost, all reconciled to the TB control accounts
RapidStart configuration package of the final setup (we may add a second company later)
Training: a short walkthrough or recorded session for my team
Acceptance criteria:
Opening TB, A/R, A/P and inventory tie out
Both cycles run end to end with zero posting errors:
quote → sales order → ship → invoice → cash receipt
PO → receive → vendor invoice → payment
A test conversion (roll adjusted out, finished good adjusted in, leftover roll written off) followed by a sale posts the correct inventory values and COGS
A sample Assembly Order posts correctly
