PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Assist the department in providing safe and dependable transportation to the students of Tomball ISD.
Participate in the scheduling and routing of the school buses to ensure safe, efficient and economical transportation services.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Licenses/Certification
- High School Diploma or GED
- Pass criminal background check, bus driver physical, DOT Alcohol & Drug Test
- Driver Record Check, as determined by DPS & Director of Transportation
- Hold Texas Class B CDL with "P & S" Endorsement
Special Knowledge/Skills
- Proficient computer skills in Microsoft applications and applicable transportation software
- Excellent organizational, communication, team, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time, maintain required documentation, and
- Serves as a liaison in maintaining good rapport with students, parents, campuses, and community
- Ensures student transportation routes and schedules comply with district policy
- Knowledge of the roads, subdivisions, campuses, attendance zones and boundaries and individual school programs
Experience
- Three (3) years of experience in the field of student transportation
- Three (3) years of experience in student transportation routing and reporting
- Knowledge of Transfinder preferred
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Prepares bus routes and updates
- Assist drivers, parents, and staff with routing issues
- Assists in preparation for state reports
- Assist in overseeing and providing support for daily performance of drivers and attendants
- Perform disaster duty as needed (hurricanes, storms, earthquakes, etc.)
- Knowledge of disabilities for SPED students transported
- Creates after school activity routes to run safely and efficiently
- Perform as a substitute driver/attendant as needed
EQUIPMENT USAGE:
Computers, copiers, telephones, fax machines, 2-ways radios, cell phones, school buses (regular and special education), fuel pumps, and minor shop equipment
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Must be able to work with others in close quarters.
Mental Demands:
Maintain emotional control; maintain effective communication with staff and supervisors; use of reasoning skills to solve problems; complete work within time schedules and meet deadlines.
Physical Demand/Environmental Factors:
Frequent sitting, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling; light lifting and carrying in sometimes awkward positions; climbing and working from step ladders at approximately three (3) foot height. Work indoors and outdoors in extreme cold, heat, and intense sunshine; Exposure to fuel and vehicle fumes.
