JOB TITLE: 

Bus Driver, Paratransit 

JOB PURPOSE:   

Operate origin-to-destination safety-sensitive paratransit shuttle bus service by safely transporting eligible passengers according to scheduled trips, providing courteous and hands-on assistance as needed, and ensuring compliance with all safety, accessibility, and service standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Safely operate UW origin-to-destination paratransit and other demand-response bus services, including vehicle operation, basic dispatch functions, and accurate collection and reconciliation of passenger fares, as required.
  • Provide high-quality customer service to all passengers by offering courteous, respectful, and professional assistance, including assisting passengers with board, securement of mobility devices, and safe entry and exit from the vehicle, as required. 
  • Perform routine pre- and post-trip vehicle safety inspections to ensure all equipment is functioning within established safety standards and maintain inventory of first aid and blood-borne pathogen kits.
  • Maintain accurate electronic and written documentation to record and report vehicle ridership, incidents, and service-related information.
  • Respond appropriately to vehicle incidents, passenger concerns, medical situations, or emergencies in accordance with established procedures and reporting requirements.
  • Maintain current required training and certifications, including CPR, First Aid, TSI Paratransit certification (or equivalent), defensive driving, OSHA (or equivalent), and other assigned training.

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned, such as shop and vehicle cleaning and training others.
  • Participate in performance-related goal setting and achievement to meet personal and organizational goals and objectives.
  • Attend and participate in training and other personal professional development activities.

WORKING HOURS: Monday - Friday 6:00am - 3:00pm

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High School Diploma or GED

Experience: 1-year work-related experience

Required licensure, certification, registration, or other requirements:

  • Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) compliant with the Driving for University Business SAP. 
  • Department of Transportation (DOT) medical card
  • Must be able to pass all drug and/or alcohol screening required by the UW Drug and Alcohol Policy and applicable DOT regulations and participate in random drug and alcohol testing pool
  • Valid TSI Paratransit certification (or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire)
  • Defensive Driving certification (or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire)
  • First Aid and CPR certification(s) (or ability of obtain within 3 months of hire)
  • Must obtain and maintain all required training and certifications as a condition of employment

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Passenger transit experience
  • Paratransit driving experience
  • Knowledge of ADA policies and procedures
  • Ability to work in a professional team environment
  • 2+ years customer service experience

WORK LOCATION: 

On-campus: This position provides vital support to campus customers, and the successful candidate must be available to work and perform essential job functions on campus, understanding our location is at 7,220 feet above sea level.
