Morgan County School District Re-3MORGAN COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT RE-3 POSITION DESCRIPTION POSITION TITLE: Bus Assistant/Paraprofessional REPORTS TO: Transportation Director POSTION SUMMARY: To provide safe and efficient assistance to the school bus driver and special needs students. To ensure that students can be transported in a safe manner and the bus driver is free to perform his/her driving tasks. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist the driver in loading and unloading students, monitoring, and maintaining student management. Shall have knowledge of the lift operation. Shall have knowledge of all wheelchair tie-downs, seat belts and harnesses, and will assist the driver in the proper securement of these devices so that students are transported safely. Shall have knowledge of disabling conditions and ability to relate well with children. Ability to walk around moving bus as needed to monitor student behavior. Shall have knowledge of emergency procedures, radio operation, route familiarity, and student conditions, and be able to assist driver to evacuate passengers in an emergency. Transportation of studnets is out of town. Active drive time is approximately 1.5 hours each direction with 5 hours of wait time and 1 hour of lunch. This is equivalent to 8 hours paid time and 1 hour lunch (non-paid) daily.
