About We are assisting our client in the logistics and transportation industry based in the New York City metro area in the search for a Brokerage Operations & Finance Analyst. Our client specializes in refrigerated freight, produce distribution support, and time-sensitive shipping, and their brokerage moves more than 1,000 loads a month. The Role This position will run the back office of our clients growing brokerage: billing, payables and receivables, carrier compliance, and freight claims. You’ll own these processes end to end, work directly with carriers, customers, and insurers, and find ways to make the work faster and more accurate with better tools. This is a hands-on role in a fast-moving environment. It suits someone who works independently, cares about details, and doesn’t let an open invoice or claim go stale. As the company grows, the role can grow into leading our finance function. This is not an entry-level position. Freight brokerage experience and hands-on cargo claims experience are required. What You’ll Do Billing, Payables & Receivables Run back-office operations for 1,000+ loads per month. Manage freight documents, including PODs, BOLs, rate confirmations, and carrier invoices. Invoice customers, process carrier payables, manage receivables, and reconcile payments. Audit freight charges, resolve billing discrepancies, and follow up on outstanding invoices, payments, and missing paperwork. Keep financial and operational records accurate, prepare reports, and help strengthen financial controls. Freight & Cargo Claims Own freight and cargo claims from first report through investigation, settlement, and recovery. Negotiate with carriers, customers, and insurers to resolve claims and recover losses. Gather and review supporting documentation and keep every open claim moving to resolution. Carrier Compliance Support carrier onboarding, verify insurance, and ensure compliance with FMCSA and company requirements. Maintain carrier records and track missing documents and expiring requirements. Work with carriers, customers, factoring companies, and internal teams to resolve issues quickly. Process Improvement Use our TMS, automation, and other tools to cut manual work and improve accuracy. Spot opportunities to streamline operations and tighten financial processes. What You Bring 3+ years in freight brokerage, trucking, 3PL, or transportation operations. Hands-on experience with freight invoicing, AP/AR, reconciliation, and transportation documents. A track record of managing freight and cargo claims independently, start to finish. Solid understanding of brokerage operations, carrier liability, cargo insurance, and compliance requirements. Strong TMS and Excel skills, and the ability to learn new software quickly. Accuracy and attention to detail in a high-volume workflow. Clear communication and the persistence to chase down answers and close out issues. Nice to Have Experience with refrigerated, temperature-controlled, or produce freight. Knowledge of cargo claims rules (such as the Carmack Amendment), freight audits, factoring, and carrier payment processes. Experience improving workflows through automation or financial reporting. Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business, supply chain management, or a related field. Where This Role Can Go As we grow, you’ll take on more of our financial reporting, accounting processes, and controls, with a path toward leading the company’s finance function. We’re looking for someone who wants to build a long-term career with us.
