Branch Buyer/Purchasing Coordinator
The Branch Buyer in Winnipeg, Manitoba, is responsible for managing inventory levels, sourcing products, and negotiating with suppliers to ensure the branch has the right materials at the right time. This role typically involves supporting local branch operations focusing on maximizing profitability while minimizing inventory investment.
Core Responsibilities
- Purchasing & Procurement: Buying general and specialized materials for branch operations.
- Inventory Management: Monitoring stock levels to ensure 100% material availability, while reducing excess inventory.
- Supplier Negotiation: Interviewing suppliers to negotiate pricing, discounts, credit terms, and transportation arrangements.
- Logistics Coordination: Establishing, monitoring, and expediting delivery schedules to meet operational needs.
- Data Management: Maintaining purchasing databases, vendor files, price lists, and inventory records.
- Quality Control: Addressing shortages, resolving supplier issues, and ensuring incoming materials meet quality standards.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Education: A high school diploma is the minimum requirement. Post-secondary degree or diploma in business administration, supply chain, or commerce is preferred.
- Experience: A minimum of 2 years of experience in purchasing or procurement, within a metals, manufacturing or industrial environment preferred.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP).
- Soft Skills: Strong negotiation, analytical, and communication skills, with the ability to work independently.
Key Competencies
- Attention to Detail: High accuracy in placing orders and reviewing invoices.
- Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with the Metals Distribution industry.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to resolve supply chain discrepancies and inventory issues.
Typical Working Conditions
- Environment: Office-based, within the branch or warehouse setting.
- Hours: Full-time, Monday through Friday with one hour unpaid lunch.
- Physical Demands: Generally low, but may require occasional on-site, in-person supplier visits.
Salary Information - $55,000 to $65,000, based on experience
